Will Hearn make it through his 2 year ‘Probation’ with DAZN?

I can undertand not liking Hearn but to see the platform which will greatly increase the amount of boxing fights in America just seems a odd thing to want as a boxing fan.

 

No it dosent. More Competition=Higher Prices, paying for two Subsciptions when before you could get it with one and more fights not being made due to network disputes.

Showtime are doing well with American Boxing, PBC have announced deals with Fox and Showtime in the last couple of days. Hearn is simply trying to rip off Americans by luring them to sign pointless Subsciptions to see european fights and league one version of MMA

 

The next step for DAZN if they achieve an increase in subscriber base and the elite fighters they crave is to stage PPVs in addition to the subscription fee. Why would any boxing fan be happy about this?

 

With DAZN don't you get nuermous boxing events free for the first month including AJ vs Povetkin and a couple WSB fights whilst havijg the optiob to cancel?

You make out the cards are weak but on top sky sports fights you get events such as their Boston card which is much stronger card than say this weekend Showtime event at Barclay centre.

 

Yes DAZN are playing the long game. They are not expecting to crack America in 6 months

 

There whole premise has been talking about how the fans are expected to buy ppv and they are not doing that.

This is boxing. In boxing, high demand always leads to PPV. Just because they have said they don’t anticipate PPV means absolutely nothing. These are wealthy successful businessman looking to maximise profits. Take off your blinkers.

 

Who cares about Eddie? As a fan you’re getting much better and regular (apparently) content. Now Al Haymon is providing us with better and more regular shows (apparently).

Showtime's Saturday Card is between two known American Fighters. Why are you comparing Sky and Showtime Cards. One is designed for the UK Audience and one for the US. Sky Cards are crap anyway, Okolie-Chamberlin, Whyte-Browne, Khan and Brook v bums that's what Sky serve up.

No-one cares about the WBSS in America, it's European shi% which yanks are not intrested in. DAZN needs NFL, NBA etc because Boxing is a minority sport over their

As an American I’ll give you my perspective:

Literally not one person I know — and I know a number of boxing fans, but they are more casuals (if there’s a good fight on they’ll watch, if a major fight like Floyd-Pac comes along they’ll get hyped up and pay to see it) than hardcore ... and not one person I know has even heard of Dazn.

There’s no advertising for it over here. If you put those four letters in front of any American they’ll pronounce it DaysInn, which happens to be a cut-rate hotel chain in the USA, lol. If you tell them it’s Da Zone they’ll laugh because literally no one would think to pronounce it like that and it sounds like a very bad Euro/UK attempt to come up with a ‘street cred’ name and failing miserably.

The fights announced so far appeal to a certain niche of hardcore boxing fans who care about WBSS Cruiserweights 2 (same division right away, really?), which is narrowly European and has no one who is a name here. And a bunch of Matchroom UK stuff, which again has no name value here.

Eddie comes to “invade” America and his first free-month offering is built around AJ against a guy who is known in the USA (among the few who know him at all) for two things — a really boring, non-competitive, bad loss to Klitschko, and failing PED tests. And NOT Joshua against Wilder, a fight Eddie teased and then avoided. Do you know what happened when AJ came to New York to promote DaysInn and the Povetkin fight? He was asked about not fighting Wilder, and said of those who want to see that fight, and I quote: “Let them train to be a fighter and fight Wilder. It’s easy talking about it, it’s another thing doing.” Not the kind of talk that excites Americans to want to see him take another fight.

Along with that fight, DaysInn’s first free month offers WBSS (of no interest to the average American non-hardcore fight fan) and a card in Chicago where the highest-profile fight (to the average casual American fight fan) is Miller-Adamek, which even a novice knows is a horrible mismatch. And some UK stuff involving more fighters who have no names in the USA.

In short, aside from AJ-Povetkin (which is getting backlash from AJ not fighting Wilder and which has received ZERO buzz here), the rest of it is of no interest here; it’s no better than an average Saturday ESPN or Fox Sports offering (which we get on TV along with hundreds of other channels we get in our cable package) and not something anyone other than the most hardcore fan would sign up for and watch.

And everyone knows the biggest thing you have to do in launching a new service is roll out the most amazing, enticing, impossible-to-turn-down lineup possible. And they have completely missed the boat on that.

So the push is “but you get all this for free.” Ahem, I was born at night but not last night. We aren’t a bunch of rubes. We know that it’s ONE MONTH for free and to get that free month we have to put down a credit card and to not get charged the next month we have to figure out how to unsubscribe and that’s generally a pain in the you-know-what.

You see, over here there’s a streaming service wanting our money every time we turn around — Netflix, ESPN+, Amazon Prime, YouTube Red, all the cable and broadcast networks are vying for those dollars. They ALL want us to take their free month ... and we’ve been through the ‘I can’t figure out how to cut it off and now they’ve charged me and it’s not worth the trouble’ routine.

But beyond that, every one of those and all the others offer more than just a handful of boxing cards in that month. Showtime and HBO offer movies and original programming that I can watch RIGHT NOW. I don’t have to wait for the next card. It’s all there. Heck, the WWE Network gives me every single PPV in the company’s history, tens of thousands of hours of on-demand stuff dating back to the 1970s and beyond. ESPN+ offers tons of other sports, not just a few boxing cards (and at half the price, by the way).

What besides boxing does DaysInn offer for twice the cost of ESPN+ (which, it should also be mentioned, has fighters known in America headlining its cards)? Umm, a second-rate MMA league that wasn’t even watched on a low-rated cable TV channel here. No NBA, NFL, not even elite Euro soccer (which ESPN does have). So far, DaysInn says “trust us, we’ll have other sports too, just you wait and see.” Umm, here in the USA, we know a line of bullspit when we hear one. Show me, don’t promise me and ask me to trust.

I think DaysInn is off to a horrible start in the USA. Eddie got everyone’s attention throwing around names like Broner and Mikey and the Charlos and his USA signings so far have been second-rate. There’s nothing to make us think he’s going to suddenly produce some big names that will resonate in the USA.

Maybe in the long run it will turn the corner. But right now it looks more like DOA (dead on arrival) than da zone.

He was doing an interview and the guy asked him if he would call Al Haymon for advice and Eddie responded by stating that Al should be the one calling him.

Couldn't believe the front of this jumped up fake geezer toff who now thinks he's a God after using his dad's money and sky sports to help make boxing more mainstream in the uk which is filled with dummies.
