Boxing will come back once you have an american born person that destroys competition, and has the whole package like Tyson, Foreman and Dempsey and is half way respectable. There is nobody on the horizon as of now.

If there was a nice big upset perhaps, not very likely though.

It's huge overseas, at least in terms of them getting huge gates when the Klitschko's fight. Do you mean will it ever be hot again in the United States? Certainly, but who knows when.

When Klitschko leaves, we will have a lot of contenders at the same level. This case will make good fights.

Hard to say, a number of things would need to happen for the sport to get hot again in the U.S.

For one thing, there are more options for the everyman when it comes to entertainment these days. Even though Boxing will always be viewed as barbaric and crude by some, the sport has to find a ways to generate more interest and attention. Replacing the plethora of alphabet orgs with an NFL of Boxing would go a long way to help the sport by concentrating the talent pool and by removing some of the hurdles that plague match making. Not having top level fighters like Pacquiao and Mayweather face each another only makes people lose interest in the sport.

it will only be hot again if a bunch of talented American superstars of Tyson, Holyfield or Bowe calibre suddenly drop out of the sky

otherwise, it will be an almost exclusively european division and will be considered "****" by a handful of bitter Americans

I don't think we'll ever again see the viewing figures that the current champ regularly brings in. With Wlad as the champ he's bringing in tens of millions of viewers every fight. No American in any division currently can get anywhere near those numbers and that's why the American boxing scene is dying on it's arse.

heavyweight boxing is still hot outside the USA but for it to regain its former glory in the USA will depend on how well Bryant Jennings and Stiverne do ( Stiverne has lived in the USA for +10 years ). I could see a buzz building up about the division if Lippe made regular appearances on television crushing cans and journeymen ( history repeats itself ).

When Wlad retires, the division will be more competitive as most of the other top guys can beat each other. People may interpret that as a great era with so many top fighters.

Muhammad Ali was asked this question one day, and he replied "Its like taking a shower, the water is hot, then its cold. Sometimes you just gotta stand and wait for the water to be hot again, or you just go out and stink".
