any use is a small issue career/long term use is a big issue what the opponent is on/not on is the biggest for me - the reason i defend lance armstrongs (sporting) achievments holyfield loses some credit because of it, but not masses
This. Evander Holyfield is really underrated by many today because of his 2nd career (2000-2012). Even that shot version of Holy has got some good wins over Ruiz, Rahman, Valuev (though he was robbed). Had he retired at 37-38 (as Lennox did), his record would have been like 38-4-1 (an undisputed CW and multiple HW champion with one of the best resumes of all time). Holyfield has wins over 7 different lineal HW champions - Douglas, Foreman, Holmes, Bowe, Tyson, Moorer and Rahman.
I'm pretty sure Holyfield was 32 in 1995 when he fought Bowe (his dob is oct 1962), but for the rest of Powerpuncher's post I agree.
PowerPuncher says: Bowe Tyson Buster Douglas Moorer Holmes Foreman Dokes Pinklon Thomas Rahman Ruiz Mercer Bean Alex Stewart Bert Cooper Losses: Lennox Lewis, Bowe x2, Moorer - all past prime Cruser Qawi x 2 De Leon Ricky Parkey Ocasio Henry Tillman Correct. Holy wasn't past his prime for all of those fights. Power Puncher said he was bald, so that somehow makes him past his prime. He'd better stay away from Hagler threads.
The names are impressive, however when you examine the dates and shape of the opponents coming into the matches its not quite as impressive. Douglas was fat and out of shape. Foreman and Holmes were old men, and each had their share of moments. Bowe was 2-1 vs Holy and lost via narrow margin on points, but creamed Holy in the other two fights. Tyson was post prison. Moorer was 1-1 vs Holy. Since when was Rhaman any good?
When Mendoza gets into agenda-drive it just goes way over his head I think. He has always been very petty with fighters he dislikes and very defensive to the ones he does. No mystery who these fighters are.
Has nothing to do with this tread. No worries Pete, Marciano will always edge out Holyfield in history.:deal

The fat Douglas that Holy took the title from was far worse than several guys who Jeffries, Wlad, or Vitali beat, but that is a different thread.
The reply was for power puncher who thinks the below fighters were better than anyone Wlad, Vitali, or Jeffries beat. Its BS of course
To be fair, the version of bowe and Tyson defeated by holy are better than anyone wlad, vitali or Jeffries ever beat. Maybe even moorer surpasses all them victims.
Holyfield is a lock for top 5 at heavyweight. His resume is the second best at heavyweight imo . And you also have to consider when he beat Mike Tyson Holyfield was 34 years old. Sure Tyson wasn't as good as he was pre-Douglas but the fact remains the same Holyfield has best win over Tyson.
