If JCC Jr wins vs Sergio, would he become more popular than Canelo, who has been proven to be a protected champ?

Yes, until Canelo wins against Cotto.

And then Chavez will move up to smw and conquer Frochy and Ward, becoming smw king

Then Canelo will have to beat and retire Mayweather or Pac or both

Then Chavez' will move up again and conquer the LHW division

Then Canelo will move to mw and wipe out Golovkin, Pirog, Geale and all the mw big names that Martinez ducked and Chavez left behind

Then Chavez will try to one up Canelo by challenging 41yo Wlad but he's gonna get wrecked

And the discussion about who was better prime for prime will keep going forever, ala Pac-Mayweather

I would think so. A win over Martinez would be light years ahead of anything Canelo has done. Legitimate middleweight champion of the world is a great accomplisment.

If he wins, that sets up a huge fight with Alvarez down the line

That's a real good question. I don't know if Arum would make the super fight with him and Alvarez though.

I have seen a decline in Canelos fanbase amongst my dads friends. Usually that is who I watch fights with as they are hardcores too. When Canelo first came out and they saw him fighting back stunned when he faced Cotto they loved him because he showed heart and for his age he was fighting decent comp.

Last weekend we were talking about both of them. They are shifting to JCC Jr. because he is stepping up his level of competition. Only a select few said that Canelo was better still. We used to pick on Jr. and say he was protected. Now after beating Rubio, Lee and next Martinez we no longer can say that.

I think if Jr. does beat Martinez he will overtake Canelo as Canelo is definitely fighting the safer fight.
Mexicans are not very forgiving on our own. I still remember the first Vanda fight where many felt Jr. lost. This fight was in Mexico and the fans went crazy booing the decision and throwing bottles at JR. and Sr. on the ring.
I feel we are definitely the fairest fans of them all.

In the beginning I liked Canelo over Junior, I have to admit I have drastically changing my mind.If junior beats Martinez- free of controversy- he will earn my respect.
Canelo has become the vedette of boxing.

I remember that Vanda fight, watched it on Azteca TV, Chavez Sr. Had to come out & calm the crowd down himself.

Overall tho, I agree with you.

Peeps Are defo warming up to Jr. Win/Lose.

I think a win will catapult him close to mega-stardom.

While his fan base amongst casual Mexican fans has declined, a win over the sexy one will re-ignite the interest he brought when he was coming up the ranks.

Canelo would have to do something equally as good or better.

JCC has an advantage over Canelo, and that is his name. But Canelo is the more exciting more explosive fighter, and casual fans love that.
