I don't see him retiring until maybe he gets knocked out again. The guy is very proud. I think he should retire. 1-4 in his last 5 fights and three by crushing knockouts. Three big knockout losses in two years? If he doesn't at least retire, he'd only be smart to take a good year off. I'm concerned for his health.
Why should he? A big puncher knocked him out! So what! Jermain is a tough pro fighter.Far too early to call him shot IMO. Lets wait and see how he fares against Ward! Ward doesnt have AA's firepower, and as we all know styles make fights. Dont be surprised to watch Jerman upset the apple cart and score a point victory over Ward!:hey
Taylor now seems a technically more sound fighter than Kessler, and he has proven he can deal with a difficult, dirty fighter (actually the master of this, Hopkins) at least to a close decision. And Hopkins throws harder than Ward. Ward also didn't hit exactly hard, he's bound to connect quick hands to score, and doesn't get his weight into them. The worst Taylor has to fear is a headbutt stoppage, or a decision loss. Nothing to throw millions away for. And if I was him, I would TRAIN for stopping the headbutting now, with the mother****ing mother of my own intentional but well masked headbutts to crush his skull and send him to ICU. Hey, it was just a jerky move, jumping into an overhand with an awful lot of very intense side movement ... Maybe Taylor should ask Hopkins to teach him a bit how to do and how to avoid that.
I know he is staying in for contractural, money and personal pride reasons but then I bet he retires unless by some miraculous stroke of luck he does well in the next fights.
Well, he was knocked out three times now in two years and the last time he suffered a concussion with short term memory loss. At some point, brain damage accumulates and then even less powerful punches can cause real harm. Right now, Jermain has all his faculties, he made enough money and he can look back on his career with the pride of once having been the undisputed middleweight champion of the world. It is quite clear that Jermain will never accomplish something of this magnitude again. Even if he beats Ward, how far can his career go? He will obviously never beat Abraham, who will be more experienced and tested against elite fighters should they meet again. He is a clear underdog against Ward, who might be the first fighter with a speed advantage over Taylor. If Taylor isn't the faster fighter, what advantage does he have? Ward hasn't lost a boxing match since age 14, Taylor lost three of his last four. Taylor doesn't have the one punch power to knock out an elite opponent and despite their techincal limitations, he couldn't successfully outbox Pavlik and Froch. Why would he suddenly be able to fight a full 12 rounds successfully after another devastating KO loss? How would he beat Ward who just pummeled the pre - tournament favorite? Anything is possible in boxing of course, but if a fighter is more likely to accumulate real damage than defy the odds, retirement would seem like a smart choice.
I can't believe what has happened to this guy. Back in 2003-2004, I thought he was going to be the dominant middleweight/super middleweight for years to come. Now we are talking about him retiring before he's 33 years old.
You made some good p oints, mate! Nevertheless,he can still earn some very good bucks in this game. Lets wait and see how he fares against Ward! If he scores a victory over Ward everything else will be forgotten within seconds.
Normally after a lose you have to fight back for some years. This is the super six, just after he was KOed, the next fight is vs Ward, who fights similar to Hopkins, fore the wba. If Taylor wins, he probably would have to fight Kessler in round 3 for the unification of the wba/wbc...........not that difficult really ............... :huh
