I actually would not be surprise if boxing journalist picks him as a p4p very best boxer today. It all depends to how he wins also. Maybe a strong showing will convince them to put Joe Calzaghe ahead of Vladmir Klitschko, Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather.

No way in hell. They will dismiss the win because of bernard age. Whether Joe wins by first round KO or 12 round domination they will say it was because of bernard's age.

Bernard's age is a major factor, but they fail to realise that Joe's aging also.

This fight will tell us a lot about a prime to prime match up because at the very least, we'll see a stylistic clash.

If Hopkins can't even take 3 rounds clean, experience and all, it's safe to say that he wouldn't beat a prime Calzaghe, even though I think it'd be a real nice close fight.

If Joe blows him out, I think he deserves to be the direct P4P# 2, when added with his last win over Kessler, because it'll show that he's moved to LHW well and Pac didn't truly beat JMM.

Because you see, an aging Eubank took 4 rounds clean off of a green, inexperienced Calzaghe. So factoring the experience difference, a prime to prime match up would have likely been the same, with Eubank taking 4-5 rounds and Calzaghe beating him in a competitive but clear fashion.

Does anybody agree with that analysis?

That's the important half of the equation the Joe resume-bashers fail to acknowledge :yep

Joe Calzaghe turns this into a quick 1-2-3 round, I can see no.1 p4p very best boxer. I wouldn't say it would be easy, because nobody has ever run down Bernard Hopkins.

I don't disagree but I garantee you that the overwhelming majority of boxing writers and fans will not give Joe the credit that he deserves. hell the excuses have already started and they aren't even in the ring yet.

I can hear it already. "bernard did not look like himself", "bernard looked sluggish" etc etc etc.

Take DLH vs Chavez for example. A still green DLH blew out a past prime chavez but people still assume that a prime chavez would have won and fail to give Oscar any credit for the win

Prime Eubank would have stoped Calzaghe in 10 rounds

Thats the risk any fighter takes when they sign to fight an old or a fighter on the decline. The win will always be tanted! Tough in my opinion.

Honestly Joe was lose, lose, lose before the fight was even negotiated. If he blows hopkins out he'll get no credit because Hopkins was old. If he wins but Hopkins is able to keep it close it'll be even worse people will say if a 43 year old hopkins could keep it close, prime hopkins would have won, If he loses well he loses that one is self explanatory, since hopkins was the one calling him out if he had not taken the fight people would say he was scared and ducking hopkins.

There was no way for Joe C to come out of this one a winner. I am kind of reminded of the whole RJJ argument. People claim that Hopkins was too green but don't acknowledge that Roy had not reached his prime either. same deal here people are not acknowledging that Joes best days are also in the past.

DLH beats any Chavez, Chavez was past it but was far from completely shot, Tyszu got a shot Chavez.

DLH is someone I dislike, but he's a H2H beast at 135 and 140, that's where I do give him the credit as an ATG that he deserves, at those weight classes. I don't see how he gets no credit for the victory, that's absurd, fight wasn't even competitive.

Check this out mate, I take a past prime Chavez as 2x as good a fighter as the Castillo that Mayweather struggled with.:yep :good

Agreed. Joe would be a solid #2 though.

Maybe if he totally dominates B-Hop wich I don't think is going to happen he will move to #2, no way in hell should he pass Floyd though
