on his way up calzaghe was known as a heavy hitter.up to beating eubank he'd won all his 22 fights, 21 inside the distance including 10 in the 1st round. 17 were stopped inside 3 rounds.ofcourse there was obviously the usual array of tomato cans and the like, but relatively speaking he did hit hard, but then had a lot of trouble with brittle hands.

the fight took place at an amtauer inter nations tournamant in italy.

tournament took place in december 1992.

chris byrd and joe calzaghe met in the final at 165Lbs.

calzaghe won ko 3 is what the records book say.

i have never seen the fight , but the result is legit.

i saw a graph of this tournement per weight class , who they beat through the rounds until they met in the final.

this was a few months after chris byrd had won a silver medal at the barcelona olympics and both turned pro after.

calzaghe should have been sent to the olympics , he never lost a senior amatuer fight, but the ABA of wales refused to allow enzo to be joe`s trainer .

As pointed out by some Joe used to be a real puncher till his hand trouble started coming into play .

He even said in an interview recently: 'My left hands been a pain in the arse , I used to be able to knock people out with my left hand' .

His hands have just become too brittle to load up on his shots .

People pointed out his ko record coming up to Eubank , he also floored Eubank in that fight and Eubank had a great chin .

another stupid post. He isn't one of the softest punchers at super middle. If you knew anything about boxing which you obviously don't, you would know Sven Ottke had only 6 ko's. Calzaghe has 32 in 44 fights. Of his title defenses 11 have come by way of ko. get a clue.

also not mentioned although i have before, calzaghe in the kessler fight was looking to place shots/score points and get out before the fast and heavy handed kessler could come back.

calzaghe simply was not trying for a ko in this fight he was trying to score points and win rounds v an opponent he could feel was strong and dangerous.

FFS go ask kessler and lacey and a few others if the guy punches hard,i guess lacey just headbutted the ring post a few ****ing dozen times instead going by the state of the guys face haha, man some of these posts are dumb as ****.
Kessler aint ever been down, and i mean ever as at any level hes ever competed at,and he was badly hurt at times by JoeC,im not a fan at all,i dont mind or hate the guy,but give the ****er some respect.

Why does he need a ko for anyone to appreciate his brilliance ??

People get me with all the brutality when they fail to see the sweet science that smack dead in front of them !!

If he were a heavy weight then yeah but most great fighters don't neeed a KO to give the fans what they want ..:bbb :bbb :bbb :bbb :bbb
