Depends how impressively he beats Hopkins.

In my view, Calzaghe would not overtake Mayweather for the NO.1 spot.

Hopkins is 43 years old, has been a pro for a long time & has many miles on the clock. Bernard is not at his best, despite what he, or anyone else suggests.

Mayweather is the better boxer, P4P, in my view. Calzaghe is one hell of a fighter & for me, a definate pick for the NO.2 place.

Should already be No 1, Floyd's nothing more than a money chaser now and would rather repeat wins over Hatton and De La Hoya than anyone serious. Plus he hasn't won so Impressive belt chasing, mostly pot shotting because he has no strength above lightweight.

if calzaghe beats hopkins(convincingly) i think america are gonna pay him a lot of respect..

if calzaghe stops him i think he should go no2.. floyd deserves to be p4p#1

i think he should go to no.2 even if he wins a UD

Calzaghe can do it... he can be P4P champ IMO... only he has to win BIG! And no one has ever dominated or stopped Bernard Hopkins before, that's something unbelievably hard or just impossible to do... so we'll see…

P4P is ALL about achievements and Calzaghe's yet to defeat a legendary fighter and a top2-4 P4Per - but he can pull off both in one fight...

While Floyd had a great 2007 (defeating DLH and especially knocking out P4P-er Hatton), it's absolutely clear that he's not gonna do anything to keep himself on the #1 spot in 2008! That's the whole point! If he'll step in a boxing ring, he'll fight DLH AGAIN, an absolutely meaningless fight, while Calzaghe (undisputed SMW champ) - who was never beaten or came close to lose against ANY fighter with ANY style, will fight a top p4p-er and maybe another one in Pavlik (undisputed MW champ) later this year...

Hopkins' resume is far better than anyone's in the past years IMO: tons of defenses, ALL 4 MW titles in his hands, two controversial losses, a stunningly one-sided win over Tarver to get The Ring LHW belt (Erdei is the lineal champ) and in his last fight he defeated p4p#3 Winky... that's amazing, and that’s the fighter whose name Calzaghe can add to his resume IF he can win... and that’s another huge fight right after he's unified ALL SMW titles probably against one of the most talented SMWs ever (skill level, according to experts like Steward, Rafael etc.) in one of the fights close to perfection (insane skill level, punch variety, 12 round boxing, brawling, change of pace, change of style, EVERYTHING on the highest level).

So, if Joe can win by TKO or dominate Hopkins, bye-bye P4P king Mayweather, fighting Big Show is just a big show nothing more…

It made me a monitor length to explain why would Calzaghe take over - if he can win... it’ll take just a few words why will Floyd fall off the throne anyway: inactive in 2008, mismatch vs. a previously defeated fighter...

    No.

Are Pac/JMM tied at 2, or seperate at 2 and 3? Or does Calzaghe somehow fit in between?

If Calzaghe impresses vs. Hopkins (which would require a schooling or stoppage), then Calzaghe firmly takes the 2nd spot, imo.

Anything else and he probably slips behind JMM to 4

I'd say he'd be top 3 or 4, but theres no way he'd be number 1.

    Agreed.

And I still maintain that Pacquiao is #1, but hey...

Calzaghes 20 defences are marred by fighting MArio Veit not once but twice (amazing what you get away with being a Frank Warren fighter) Tucker Pudwill,

Also Calzaghe hasnt fought great fighter outside or inside his weight class.

Mayweather can say he fought the best in each division minus a miguel cotto

Calzaghe doesnt belong in the same sentence as Floyd.

Beating Hopkins accomblishes nothing other than a paycheck, which is why Calzaghe does it.
