    If you by "legitimate" mean any one of the "Big 4", then it's going to be difficult. Though probably not impossible... who knows, what could happen in the future.

    If we're talking any obscure organization, then it has already been done! From 1994 to 2002 Samson Dutch Boy Gym defended his World Boxing Federation World super flyweight title 38 times - after which he retired with a perfect 43(36)-0-0 record.

    By legitimate I meant as in the actual champion of the division, not one of several claimants.

    definitely, ali stands out because he would not be one to retire early, he'd be too crazy too and keep pluggin away till 40 again.
