Will John Ruiz make the Hall of Fame?

I see how some people can say no. Yes he is a two time world champion. So was Hasim Rahman and Oleg Maskaev. I can definitely say he's not a first ballot hall of famer but for him being the first latino heavyweight champion of the world, that itself will get him in sometime. I'm not saying he is deserving just on that aspect but he should also be considered for the opposition he has faced(win or lose) and his staying power over the years.

True. For instance Golota or Tua. I voted no, but he has some achievements.

Ruiz was a glorified journeyman who caught Holyfield on the downside of his career. Who else has he beaten that was considered "top flight"? The only way he gets into the hall is if he pays full admission.

But i bet you being the only latino HW champ sways it in his favour wich is crazy, it should be on acheivements in the ring imo.

 

He's a two-time belt holder who never beat anyone who was even close to a great or even good fighter. Not to mention the fact that he lost ever single time he stepped up. Ruiz won't even smell the hall of fame. The two-time belt holder thing is a joke.

 

He lost badly to two former middleweights....not the mark of a Hall of Fame caliber heavyweight.

poor barry mcguigan, still the poster boy for how little it takes to make the hall of fame.

 

Can we get real. He was a beltholder. He wasn't a champion. He didn't beat Lennox Lewis or the Klitschkos....He beat old Holyfield for a vacant belt. That is not the same as being a heavyweight champion. Basically, he was a bronze medalist.

 

He was an excellent fighter in his prime.

I still remember him taking Holyfield to school.

 

Corbett lost to a fighter that was actually a middleweight, and he is an ATG heavyweight.

 

It's a shame too, because McGuigan seems like a class act too.
