Will Jones/Hopkins/Kessler's careers go on to define Calzaghe's?

After this apparent dominant victory for Jones would you agree what Jones does from here will also reflect on Calzaghe? Say Jones goes on to win another belt against a decent opponent, would that change your opinion of Calzaghe's win over him and hence improve his record in your eyes?

edit: Add Kessler and Hopkins into that equation as well. For example if Kessler goes on to be a hall of famer, will that make Calzaghe's record any more impressive.

edit: I just wanna point out I'm not a Calzaghe nuthugger of any sort I dont think of him as an ATG.

No, Jones is still a shell of himself. It will improve Calzaghes legacy little bit, but we all know that the best Roy Jones was done 5 years ago

It's going someway into showing why RJJ still rates himself as a top rank boxer and why he didn't throw the game away after losing to Calzaghe.

RJJ himself said "Calzaghe at any point would have been my toughest challenge as a fighter" before and repeated it after the fight.

I definately agree hes past his best. I suppose we'll have to see what Jones does from here, fight Green and whatever else. Personally I'd like to see him hang up his gloves now.

Not whatsoever. Roy Jones was GUN-SHY against Calzaghe, and Enzo said they knew to expect that ahead of time, well before the fight took place. Calzaghe beat a man as Enzo Calzaghe put it "who had fear," a man who was completely unsure of himself, non-committed, half-stepping, shucking, shivering - yellow bellied Roy Jones Jr... Hardly impressive. You could see that Jones clearly had the superior handspeed and maneuvers against Calzaghe - it did not matter. Watch the fight, FFS.. No need to even ask this question..

Thats pretty much how I felt about the Calzaghe fight.. Who knows what would have happen if Roy had of had the confidence to fight back against Calzaghe.. Too bad we will never know.. Great post..

Well, a fair portion of Roy's own legacy comes from what certain opponents of his achieved afterward, ie: Hopkins.

Given that that's the case, then I would say anything Roy does from now on would have to make Calzaghe (or anyone else who beat him) look better as well.

He got outclassed in other words. No I like Jones and I think he was past his prime but why would he fight if he couldnt? Doesnt make sense to me. And all of a sudden he has it back now. What did he have an epiphany? Thats handy isnt it.

Jones was never scared of Calzaghe lol... **** would a fan/trainer of another fighter say that for lol... Jones just can't beat the elite fighters anymore. Going to heavy, and coming back down ruined him. Cal was on top of his game, and Jones iwas just not the same fighter he used to be.

Jones is looked at as being greater than Cal. People forget quickly hwo great a fighter used to be when his time has come and gone. Jones resume shits on Cal's and I'm a fan of both guys. Jones beating Ruiz is greater than anything Cal has done in the rng.

That's exactly what happened with Roy against Calzaghe and we could also add the Tarver III fight to that logic !

Guys will never understand what it is like to get old in the ring and keep on fighting. I got out of the game young and with my senses. Jones losing to Cal and Tarver in fight 3, Jones pulled the trigger for as long as he could until he couldn't anymore. It never comes down to not being able to because you are scared lol, fuk kind of thought is that lol. You just can't keep up the stamina you once had, and fans will never be able to understand...

Tarver found this out against Hopkins and Dawson, even thouh Tarver gave Dawson a better fight in the rematch.
