equal or abit better I would say probably. got youth on his side kinda depends what next generation of hw's have for talent fury and them will be gone by time huntis is in prime.
Huni was the world junior champ in 2016, a medalist at the senior world amateur championships in 2019 & qualified for the Olympics in 2020 (didn't go b/c of injury). Those are three things Joseph Parker didn't do. Huni also faced the two guys who made the Olympic final during his amateur career. He was never stopped as an amateur (although I think Jalolov dropped him - edit - ruled a slip or a push, not a knockdown). He wasn't hurt on that occasion although he obviously was in the sparring footage. Pretty sure the opponent there was a Kiwi Cruiser, not a Light Heavy. I can remember seeing David Tua get stopped in 17 seconds in the amateurs by what looked like an innocuous punch so I wouldn't write Huni's chin off solely based on the footage posted. Huni has money behind him meaning he will get decent opponents & the opportunity to travel for sparring (he's currently in the US sparring with Frank Sanchez). I think he's a significantly better talent than Joe Parker but whether he achieves more than him as a professional (Parker was an alphabet H/W world champ let's not forget) remains to be seen. If Huni's chin proves to be solid, I think he'll have a tremendous career. His hand & foot speed is significantly better than anyone else out there, imo. He's got enough size & strength to match it with most & possibly all. He's an accumulation puncher, not a knockout artist. Despite not being a knockout artist, he's not a run & hold guy either. At 23, he's worth following.
Pretty sure i was told his is a light heavy. May have been a cruiser, but i know for a fact the bloke was not a heavyweight. Thats what made it all the more notable. He got queered by a smaller fighter. There are questions on his power. Well, they arent even questions. The fact is, he doesnt have ko power. Hasnt really even got accumulative power.
The sparring partner was Ricky Esilva who has only ever fought professionally at Cruiser. I think people are entitled to question Huni's chin (despite the fact he fought the best in the amateurs & was never stopped or officially dropped) b/c that will ultimately determine how far he goes. I think you could say the same about most H/W's. What I'd add to that assessment though is if he's got a good chin, he will go a long way.
He had supposedly concussed himself the a week before wrestling with a brother or mate. He landed head first on concrete but kept in from his trainers. I'm sceptical that was the real reason he got emu legs but thus far his chin has looked fine in the ring. My expectations aren't particularly high for him as a pro. I tend to think his abilities and style suited amatuer success. But they will move him along reasonably quickly and he will be one to watch for Aussies anyway.
Yep agreed, more suited to Ams. He could have been our 1st olympic gold medalist. At least, he would have been a good chance. He'll still be entertaining as a pro. If he could punch, he'd be a weapon.
