Will Kevin Mitchell ever be a world champion?

    After his recent loss to Michael Katsidis, rumours were flying about claiming that Mitchell had problems at home and was cutting corners in training. Jimmy Tibbs said as much post fight, as did Warren, who looked pretty pissed to say the least. This has led many to ask, has Kevin got the capability of being a world champion in the future.

    This question can really be subdivided into 2 questions. 1) is he good enough technically to be a world champion and 2) is he mentally strong enough to devote himself to becoming a world champ.

    Now every1 who follows my posts will no im a huge Mitchell fan, and I truly believed he would beat Kats on Saturday when the fight was made. As the event drew closer I was getting more and more sceptical as Kevin continually talked about having a ‘old fashioned east end scrap’ with Kats, something which I don’t think anyone at LW should try.

    After his defeat in his biggest fight, will he ever become a world champ?

    As you probably would guess, I think he can and WILL be a world champion in the future. I think that Kats fight has taken him down a peg or two, and it might actually serve as a wake up call for him not to be overconfident in future bouts. The defeat may also prompt him to train abroad for his next few fights in order to get away from distractions at home, something which will benefit him IMO.

    So ive gone for yes he will. For me he definately has the technical abilities to become a world beater, and with his head sorted he will go on to win a title. What do you guys think?

    P.S. ive posted this in the British board as the main board is pretty much pure blind hate towards him as he hasn’t been exposed to them yet.

    World titles mean nothing.

    Will he beat someone considered the best in his division? Not IMO.

    No he has shown that he will not ever be world champion. He obviously has too many other issues outside the ring to become the success many hope he could be and to be honest even on a great day at his very best he will struggle to beat most inside the top 10.

    there are weaker champs at 135 than katsidis. i cant see jimmy tibbs allowing him to cut corners in training tho

    With Warren matchmaking he might win a title but he'll never unify or beat the number 1 unless he gets lucky with the matchmaking. Can't see him being a titlist who defends multiple times. Remember Kats is quality but he's a gatekeeper for the elites - Diaz and Casa, probably Marquez if they fought.

    Agreed.

    I just don't think he has the dedication. Even Ricky Hatton, who gets criticised for enjoying himself and bloating up between fights, has the dedication to isolate himself and be 100% focused on his fights in training camp.

    I'm astonished that Kevin Mitchell didn't do the same for the biggest fight of his career and his ticket to the big time.

    Hope he learns from this and proves me wrong...

    I think he can if he builds up the right way.

    Honestly think he coul beat Paulus Moses the WBA champion next year no problem. Katsidis is a strong world champion.

    agree on this. He will win a belt but wont be a lineal champ like Haye, Hatton, Calzaghe have been.

    I'm a fan, but imho the road back will be too long and hard for him now. He'll have to scrap around domestically battling the likes of Murray and who knows how fresh he'll be after all that.

    Moreover I doubt Warren will be rushing to take another gamble on him anytime soon.

    Yes spot on in my opinion. I hope he does fight murray soon, that would be a good matchup and both fighters have pretty much everything to prove

    Yes i agree. I would also like to see him fight Humberto Soto in the near future, possibly after a Murray Matchup
