I know Richard Schaefer isn't exactly a boxing expert but he's got quite a few fights wrong recently. He ruined Ortiz against Maidana. He ruined Jacobs by putting him in with Pirog. Khan is known for his weak chin. Against Kotelnik, Salita and Malignaggi his chin held up fine. But that doesn't mean it will against a beast like Maidana. it might not be a wise move to put a guy like Khan in with Maidana. Although I am glad, because it should be a good fight.
I've never been confident in GBP's ability to develop and nurture a fighter. In fact, they're pretty **** at it. Which is one of the reasons why I was never too keen on Amir leaving Frank Warren, an expert in keeping vulnerable fighters nice and safe. However, having Roach in the corner can keep many of his fans at ease. But even then, I have a feeling Maidana may crush him.
lol. It's just that I'm not that confident in him at the moment. He's still a vulnerable fighter. Very vulnerable.
if you're referring to the mysthical Golden Boy Jinx, then well, yeah, there's a fair chance that Khan will inevitably be destroyed. poor guy, may've been better off with Top Rank. oh well, at least he's getting paid, for now
Khan will get KO'd sooner or later, i'll be very surprised if he can last 12 rounds with Maidana without being sparked out, but only time will tell.
I agree. I like the fight with Maidana because it's such a big risk, but from Khan's fans perspective, I'd be a bit worried. I think this is like taking baby steps, in Malignaggi, to running against Usain Bolt, in Maidana. There is still a doubt whether his chin has improved or not. It's probably it has, but it's a massive risk and it will never be solid enough to take punches from Maidana, anyway. A better fight for his fans would be Alexander or Bradley. As a neutral, I'm glad he's gone for Maidana, which is probably worrying for Khan fans.
Golden Boy has become one of the largest promotional teams in the last few years but one thing they've failed to do is develop a fighter from the ground up. Most of Golden Boy's top names were already established fighters before signing up with GBP, Shane Mosley, Bernard Hopkins, and even Amir Khan to an extent who had a strong British following before jumping on board. Over the last few years the match making at Golden Boy has ruined young talent sending fighters with little to no experience back to the drawing board. Everyone from Danial Jacobs to Victor Ortiz. Will Amir Khan fall victim to the same fate, thats a great questions and I don't believe so. The difference between Khan and Jacobs or Ortiz is that he's learned his lesson accepting fights with unknown fighters from obscure locations. We have to remember that before Ortiz was knocked by Marcos Maidana nobody knew who he was or who he'd fought. So much so that several people including myself were calling him Madonna instead of Maidana. And the same goes for Danial Jacobs getting knocked out by Dmitry Pirog. Nobody had ever heard of Pirog nor did anybody know how good he really was. I think Team Khan has learned from the mistake they made with Breidis Prescott and chances are Khan will be protect more than President Obama himself. Khan won't face anybody that has the ability to seriously hurt him unless the risk is calculated.
Glass Beard Promotions seem to be a kiss of death for any young fighter at the moment. Khan's another level though. He's got his defense down tightly, and he's not gonna take any risks in there like Ortiz did. He's just gonna take his time and outbox Maidana and break him down. Expect a UD for England's finest.
A good promotional company wouldn't let Khan look pass anyone with accuracy and pop for his entire career.
Khan has been knocked out once, and given that he's already fighting guys in or around world title level he will probably get knocked out again. I just don't see why that's a big deal. The modern obsession with unbeaten records is stupid. Most of the best fighters lose a few. Even if you are the best or amongst the best, if you fight other guys at the top level often enough you will have to be very lucky indeed to win every time. Sugar Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali, Tommy Hearns, Marvin Hagler, Lennox Lewis, Evandar Holyfield, Roberto Duran, Manny Pacquiao, the list is endless. None of those guys were undefeated and most of them got knocked out. Khan can clearly be beaten, even by boxers he is better than, because of his chin. That makes him better to watch - even if he is dominating, he's always one huge punch away from losing. The Maidana fight is a case in point. You can make a strong case for Khan winning easily based on his superior speed and skills. You can also make a case for him being knocked out in any round. Neither of those arguments are inherently stupid. Which is why this is a great matchup.
How did he get fights wrong?, he gave the public competitive fights and his guy lost. If Ortiz won then he would have beat yet another "can", right? atsch Oh and Ortiz is ruined? :nut
Doubt Amir makes it through maidana...if he does and gets floyd than he'll get a huge payday but he'll get his glass chin broken again
