I know that the purse bid will take place on January 16th and that the fight must take place before Febuary 24. BUT the RTL and Vernd Boente clearly dont want to see the fight happen before May, for some reason? Will the fight take place before May or will the WBA back under and go with RTL and Boente?
Maybe this has something to do with having the fight in a huge outdoor stadium. Which is fair enough for a fight of this magnitude I suppose. A pity really they couldn't both sneak in an extra somewhat smaller fight in between before this monster battle. But the WBA are being pricks about it.
K2 postpned the fight last year as well. There is no reason why they shouldn't take the fight, unless its because they are worried. Its the best fight bar nobody for him at the moment. This was a statment made by Bontey in 2011 Povetkin doesn’t have the name value needed for Wladimir to want to fight him. Part of the problem is that Povetkin hasn’t done a whole lost since winning the IBF heavyweight eliminator tournament in 2008. He’s fought nothing but B level fighters fort he past three years up until his bout with Chagaev. Wladimir doesn’t want to take a huge step down in pay for his next fight and wants a recognizable name. "Povetkin doesn’t bring in the interest that Wladimir needs. For his next fight, Wladimir could wind up against on American heavyweight Chris Arreola in a fight that might end up taking place in New York. Arreola is fairly popular and gets good ratings for his fights on cable. Other than Arreola, there’s not a lot of guys out there."
No matter who wins the purse bid, (K2 likely), there is no way a fight is taking place by February 24th. Late March would be nice.
I hope Povetkin makes Wlad angry by calling Steward names and Wlad unleashes a left hook with murderous intent, that would be one nice finish. If that happens I bet for a 1 month ban that Povetkin has his eyes closed for 15 minutes minimum. WARWLAD
I doubt a fight this big would happen so short notice unfortuneatly, but i cant wait till it does happen.
