Will Lomo vs. Rigo be similar to Carlos Monzon vs. Jose Napoles?

I feel like Lomo vs. Rigo will be similar to Carlos Monzon when he fought Jose Napoles, where the great big man beats the great little man. You have 2 of the most skilled boxers fighting, although one is coming up in weight 2 division above his normal weight, similar to when Jose Napoles (highly regarded at the time) moved up 2 divisions to fight Carlos Monzon. Rigo might give Lomo early on but Lomo will eventually adjust and use not just his skills but his size to control the fight and eventually stop him.
    What do you guys think?

No. It's going to be very similar to Canelo vs GGG. Output will be the only difference of the fight. Rigo will land the more quality shots. Loma will look the busier man.

Can't wait for this as a boxing fan cause I know Rigo can be boring but given better opp I expect him to be on it throwing heavy shots.
To me this fight regardless of age and size all boils down to wether his Hi Tech boxing works against a top tactical guy like Rigo.
Can Lomo do his hi tech psy op thing where he throws the punch from everywhere the opp isn't expecting with the unseen shots doing the real damage.

May be wrong but Rigo seems to have massive pop on his punches, almost like when he really wants he can his opp at will so I'm thinking Lomos size might not be as important,my heart says Lomo as he's been active and has youth.

Rigos gonna be surprised when he finds out Loma isn't easy to hit.
Loma has the skill advantage and size advantage. I expect Loma to ko him around 8 or 9th round

I picked Rigo back in the day..much less confident now. But might chuck a cheeky bet on him.

I don't quite feel the comparison but gotta give you props for the old school shout.

I'm expecting it to look somewhat like Calzaghe v Hopkins

I was thinking this also, except Rigo will back off across the ring and reset when he is pressured. But the Calzaghe-Loma comparison is spot on.

    Bump
I think the comparison with Loma vs Rigo and Monzon vs Napoles is still valid. We all saw how one sided both fights were, and they both lasted 6 rounds before the Cuban decided to quit on the stool. The only difference was one fighter was taking his beating like a man and had to be stopped from continuing while the other couldn’t handle the humiliation.

People are still making excuses for Loma’s win over Rigo but the truth is he made the fight look so easy over a quality technician, and that’s why it’s going to be seen as a great win much like Monzon’s win against Napoles.

No. Napoles was 34, Rigo was 37. Those three years make an enormous difference.

Difference is Napoles had far more professional fights, has a style that wears him down faster in age, and has taken more punishment throughout his career leading to the Monzon fight. Rigo, on the other hand, has taken far less punishment going into the Loma fight and has a overly defensive style that ages better.

He had 475 fights in the amateurs. That will wear you out. Napoles whole career was 585 rounds. Rigo's amateur career was onver 1200 rounds, maybe closer to 1500. Also, I've never bought that one style ages better than another. I see no evidence for it. The guys who had the most fights like Duran, Chavez, Armstrong all had in your face swarming action packed high contact styles. And as I've shown time and time again, the defensive boxers put a lot more rounds in than the offensive artists because they don't get early KOs. Mike Tyson or Jack Dempsey have fewer rounds in a career than Mayweather and Whitaker. It's highly debatable who takes more damage.

And 34 is just end of prime/post prime where Napoles was when he fought Monzon. Rigondeaux was 37 well past prime when he fought Lomachenko. Monzon would be derided if the only good scalps he had were Griffith and Napoles. He maintains his good reputation because he also beat good middleweights such as Benny Briscoe and Nino Benvenuti.

If you think that an opponent being in their late 30s or early 40s doesn't severely undermine a win you are being preposterous. It only goes one way. If Broner beats Pacquiao then he's supposed to. If Pacquiao beats Broner at his age he's amazing.
