Will Lucas Matthysse end up like Marcos Maidana?

And let his career go down the pan, or will he beat the champions of 140?

As i have a feeling he's another Maidana. A limited slugger with power who looks good against limited sluggers like Ajose Olusegun.

As i think Matthysse before his fight with Judah, many thought was an overrated, and an opponent for Zab Judah to look good against.

Lets be fair he didn't beat Zab Judah as convincingly as many think he did.

And he couldn't knock out Devon Alexander.

Maidana had LOTS of power in his fists but could not knockout Amir Khan.

Many think he was robbed against Zab and Alexander. Maybe he was against Alexander but the Judah fight could have been a draw. He didn't knock both of them out.

Never quite understood why Lucas gets his nuts hugged so badly on here.

Failed to beat a washed up Zab Judah aswel as other losses. That's all you need to know about him

What other losses? The Alexander fight is regarded almost universally as a bogus hometown decision.

I think he has more talented than Maidana, but I do agree with you that a good boxer/puncher with a solid chin and liver will always give him trouble.

Honestly, though, on any given day I think he could be a nightmare for any of the top dogs at 140.

well i think the judah fight was close im cool wit judah winning. but come on lucas hurt him and knock him down , but i kno that doesnt mean lucas won, but he deff beat alexander imo and it was a 10 round fight in his hometown . give lucas 2 more rounds and who knows wut happens. an he wont end up like maidana. hes way better then maidana. lucas has a great pro game. very strong and very good stamina. can hang in there wit elite opposition an when he gets his oppurtunity he will always compete. we see that his heart and tuffness are through the roof. his chin is very durable. and even tho hes fightin bum ass hank lundy till this point his career was managed very well , he shouldnt ever be fightin lundy comin off a loss and makin a debut at 140. why cant they just make rios/lucas. i kno golden boy top rank bs . thats the fight thats a must to make right now.

:patsch You must not watch Matthysse often,Lucas is better than limited maidana, spars with 154lb+ Sergio Martinez. He's the real deal. His only 2 decisions are split decision losses to Americans in their hometown/country & he knocked both down think about that for a minute........What more does he have to do/prove? Floyd didn't KO judah & Devon has never been KO'd. People thinking he's just a limited slugger surprises me he's a smart Boxer/puncher.He fight's everybody isn't a protected fighter like garcia & a lot of these other guys.Someone from Judah team reached out to Lucas team & said he had won it's just boxing politics.Judah had nagging injuries.

Judah himself said:"Who ever wants to fight Lucas should think twice,His power feels terrible.I was feeling his hits weeks after"

Devon:"Never in my career have I been harder than Lucas did,He hurt me the most"

    32 KO's it's no coincidence.

I think esb has grown to love him more because of the action packed fights his on. He **** on humberto soto .. that hype train didn't last long lol. And the ajose fight was pure entertainment. If the alexander fight was a 12 round fight.. which it should of been, devon would of been knocked out

    LOL

He beat Judah by a couple of rounds at least and the less said about the Devon sham the better. He isn't ATG by any stretch, however, he would test any of the 'elite'

Well, he didn't knock out Zab or Devon. Them two are the best he's fought so far. He hasn't really fought anyone of note other than those two.

Zab is past it, and Khan would beat Alexander.

Khan went through Zab easily. But to think he's leaps and bounds better than Khan, Garcia, and Rios is absurd. He isn't at all. Amir Khan might have a weak chin but he is better technically than Matthysse.

I see Lucas as a boxer with qualities but he doesn't stick out to me as a huge talent. He's on the same level as Khan, Garcia, and the Rios's of this world. He's on the same level as them.

He's also changed his style a bit now that he is fighting in the US. So if you've not really seen his fights, which kind of sounds like that may be the case, then you should watch as unbiased as possible.

First off, it's a bit early to say Maidana's career has "gone down the pan". He suffered a setback early in the year but has gone back to the drawing board and made some improvements for the rest of it. He beat a solid guy in JSK and then nailed it in his tune-up last week. He's trying to land a date with Malignaggi (or I guess Mosley) for the WBA title in 2013, which puts him right back in the mix if all goes to plan.

Second, Matthysse has a higher ceiling than Maidana and would beat him h2h in the pros to avenge their amateur series. (they fought several times, all narrow Maidana points victories or draws)

Why couldn't he beat an old, shot Morales convincingly if he's any good?

He went up to 147 and hasn't even made any waves yet. Who's he beat?

Soto Karass? A guy lower tier boxers can beat. It doesn't really prove Maidana is any good.

If you can get a record of 40 knockouts or a high ko ratio by knocking out bums then people can get the impression you're actually really good.

The fact is Amir Khan would beat everybody on Matthysses record but maybe would have a ''fight'' against Devon Alexander.

I think Maidana and Matthysse haven't reached their prime and Lucas and Marcos are both steadily improving.
