    No

    Margarito doesn't use his height

the height can also be a disadvantage, he has too make sure that he gives himself enough space so his punches have maximum effect, if he gets too close then cottos punches will have more of an effect.

Margo's defense, or lack thereof, will be the biggest factor in this fight.

He normally uses his relentless offense as his defense, but he will not be able to do that against Cotto, and survive 12 rounds.

This will be a tough fight for both, but Miguel will win this one easier than most people think.

Edit: and I'm a fan of BOTH fighters.

Oly margo does not punch like a tall fighter. He is an inside fighter. His power is not at the end of his shots like say Cintron for example who needed distance to punch.

It will be his downfall. He has a huge body which Cotto will abuse with lefthooks to the ribcage.

Nope, Margarito doesn't box and fight on the outside, he fights on the inside so height won't be a factor in my opinion.

he may be an inside fighter, but he would be far more effective giving himself space, picking his punch, and giving it maximum power, look at how he KO'd cintron, he gave himself space, picked his punch and he couldn't handle it.

    Exactly!
I think it would favor Cotto's skills if the fight became a boxing match.....
......but what if Margarito uses his reach and upsets Cotto's boxing plans???

.....then its likely to turn into a war with Cotto trying to get inside Margarito's reach.......and it this happens, then I'm liking Margarito's combination of workrate, chin, and stamina to win through.

Imo, Cotto needs to establish himself as the better boxer on the outside.....maybe darting in and out, and using angles much better than Margarito........

.....my feeling however is that if Cotto is not able to outjab Margarito, (which wont be an easy task) he's going to find himself in a heap of trouble.

The important thing however is that this is going to be a great matchup!

Yes it will be a factor.

Cotto will have to throw punches higher than he is used to. Well, apart from who they chose for sparring this time out.

Not only that but his head will be lingering dangerously close to Margarito's uppercut. The small man is at a disadvantage from that uppercut because his head is usually close and right in the path of it. Big men with big uppercuts have been known to be destroyers of smaller, good or great men.

I don't like how exposed Margaritos body is when he's getting in his range, Cotto can capitalize off body shots and still not get hit in this fight as opposed to a fight with Mosley or Judah, were a shot to the body would leave him open for a counter upstairs by those quicker and slicker opponents.

Cotto can get to the body and put money in the bank for the later rounds.

Margarito tries going to the body and he will be viciously countered by the faster Cotto

Still margarito is not a terrible outside fighter, actually I see that as his punching range with his power on the end of his punches (contrary to the above posters)

marg height could be a factor in the bout but he hasnt used it in the past, hard to say he will change that now. In the clottey fight he clearly had the height advantage but didnt use it and tried fighting in the inside. Cotto has already fought many taller oppenents so thats not something hes concerned about.
