Will Marquez be in better condition this time at 144 than he was in 09 vs Floyd?

Will Marquez's experience of fighting above 140lbs once before mean he'll hold the weight better this time, or does his body frame/type mean he's going to have to carry excess bodyfat again?

Of course, everybody shows up in career-best shape vs. Pacquiao.

Same can't be said about Floyd opponents though.

Or, you could just answer the question.

Will the experience of having already fought at a 144 catchweight help him this time, or will the additional two years in age make Marquez a lesser force this time?

I think the age is the bigger factor here, Marquez isn't really a Lightweight, so to pack on these extra pounds can't be good for him, he's not a natrual athlete so to speak in the form the Pacquaio is so he can't gain muscle and carry it well.

He has hired a strength and conditioning coach this time though, (I think)

    I think it will.

JMM acknowledge he could have prepared for Floyd a better way. Against Pacquiao - who's the same size as him - he knows he won't need to do anything excessive to match the opponent's weight. He'll be weighing is usual 145 on fight night like he did against Katsidis, but with this 144 catchweight, he's got the freedom to reach that 145 more effectively.

Plus, seeing as though it's two years on from that Floyd fight, and how he's all of sudden grown too old to fight Pacquiao :)roll:), JMM at this age would welcome the chance to not have to cut a few more pounds.

jmm will have more chance against pac than he did vs floyd. stylewise, as well having ample time to adjust to the weight, and him and pac being closer in size. the downside is that he's older, but he's has always shown he's a well tuned machine and always comes to fight.

this will be the third time he would fight above 135 and chances are, he would be much better in dealing with the weight than his first time back in 2009. also this time, he would not need to really bulk-up to match his opponent's size so that would be another factor.

Weight is almost a non-issue. The only way it's putting JMM at a big disadvantage, is because Pacquiao, without weight restrictions, becomes a monster. JMM's body itself isn't being hindered. He's still able to reach his prime condition. It's just unfortunate for him that when Pacquiao is also able to reach his prime condition, Pac exceeds him by quite a margin.

Also, he has hired a nutritionist for this fight, so they should help a lot also.

He better be. I believe he will be in much better shape. The Mayweather fight was for the money.

of course. he's had more time to gain the weight besides its his second time there. it will allow him to be a bit better physically than he was first against floyd but it wont make a difference because he still doesn't belong above 135.
