Will Maskaev be too rusty to beat Peter?

By the time their fight is due to happen (fingers crossed there of course), Maskaev is going to be a spry 39 years old and won't have had a actual boxing match for about 15 months.

While getting knocked down 3 times by Jameel McCline was plenty embarrassing for Peter, on the other hand he certainly had to fight hard and he should be a lot fresher.

Regardless of how people feel about respective tactics and abilities, might Maskaev just been a bit too inactive to perform as he needs to?

I originally favoured Peter to beat Maskaev, but now I'm not so sure even with the long lay off.

maskaev too rusty??? he better get all the rust he can in his china chin so it dont break so quick.

once peter hits him, its over. and maskaev knows it cause he is playing hard to get.

I'm picking Maskaev in this one, rusty or not. Peter, rather than continuing to improve , is going backwards judging on his performance against McCline. The chubby Nigerian's ability to take a punch has diminished since he took all of Wlads bombs. Oleg will complete the pot bellied Africans downward spiral with a straight right.

Oleg at 39 years old of age and with several herniated discs, a coupla bulging discs and ankle contusions from last October, cannot possibly come up for this fight - it's the Klitschko-McCline situation for Big O or at best, a losing effort against Peter. I believe McCline would be able to outlast Maskaev at this point.

Bye Bye Maskaev - Hello Peter.

Peter ****s Maskaev up - he's not Rahman.

Peter will be ready for his oppenent this time around, Maskaev has ducked Peter for over a year now, trying to make deals to fight an almost 3 years inactive Vitali instead. Peter had trouble with Mccline because he was only given 10 days to prepare for a completely different oppenent who was and always is very game.

Peter will knock Maskaev out early, my guess is the 3rd round, it will end with a Peter overhand right. I think after this fight everyone will be demanding a Peter/Wlad 2 fight, it will be called "Unfinished business."

I think Peter is going to beat the hell out of him.

I actually think the layoff will be good for Maskaev as it will give him time to heal his numerous injuries.

I think Maskaev will own him. If he don't so long. You will always be remembered for the destruction of Rahman.

Maskaev needs to get ko'd into retirement, he had a good career for a glorified journeyman heavyweight fighter.

In your dreams. Rahman hits harder than Pete and the McCline fight did alot for Oleg's confidence. I agree with the author of this thread, tho'--Oleg's almost 40.

Before the McCline fight, I expected Peter to stop Maskaev early. But because Peter has shown some dangerous vulnerabilities, I am less confident in going with him. When I break the fight down, I think Peter's jab will beat Maskaev to the punch early on and I expect him to find a hole with the overhand right.

KO in 6 for Samuel Peter (but Maskaev has the power to knock him out too, so he has to be careful and not stand flatfooted, with his hands down, in front of Oleg)
