What about the likes of Wayne Elcock, Manny Siaca. Experienced but certainly past their past. Maybe even Willie Gibbs?
Well the next few are going to be more of the can variety. Guys like Darnell Boone (15-10-2), Pierre Moreno (24-12), David Estrada (12-11), Tucker "Pullin yer" Pudwill (40-7) and the like. Maybe even a Matt Vanda type as well. Stuff like that until we get into the real "meat and potatoes" of the MW division. Thet's one of the better things about the MW division really. It's full of decent journeyman to feast on and gain experience.
Matt Vanda is somehow destined to be a step-up for these young fighters. It's a bit early now, but I definitely see it happening sometime at the end of the year or early next year.
He needs to move up in class, why waste time padding his record with tomato cans. He has a good amateur background, put him in there with someone decent, who he feels confident he can beat.
Guy scores a knockout against a complete bum suddenly he's a future champion. People were saying the same **** when Andy Lee knocked out Carl Daniels.
One of the young guys people were saying things about was also Hearns...Hagler...SRL...etc. Sure more prospects fail than succeed, but waiting to see what happens is fun. Who cares about waiting for a prospect to win a title or beats A-level comp before paying attention to him?
In 5 fights, Korobov has shown more defensive ability than Andy Lee. The excitement over Lee was extremly warranted but most of us knew he'd have to sharpen his defensive skills before stepping up. He just never got a chance to really do it because Manny Steward saw huge things in him and put his foot on the pedal a little too fast. Lee still has a lot of potential. Don't write him off because he lost one fight. That's a schmuck thing to do.
Man its funny how it works around here. We have a great young fighter in the States that is actaully beatting top fighters, and we told that we are overhyping and rushing him. A European fighter has 5 fights vs horrible comp and he is the next great thing...He is already a unified champion and a beast that will dominate weights??? How the **** does that work???
Again just because a few ******s are leaning in one direction, it doesn't make a statement any less valid. You can watch Korobov and see why GBP, Top Rank and all the devils of boxing warred to get him under their umbrella. Manny Steward was practically touchin himself watching Korobov fight.
Point being is you dont know what you have until someone hits him in the face. I only seen the one fight of Korobov, but he may have the worst chin ever. You wont know until he fights someone that will at least fight back.
