I don't think so, and I think even if he was that HBO gig pays pretty well. Seems like he just can't give it up.
I was thinking the dame thing and when I met him I wouldn't dare ask the question but I believe deep down it's the money, he came over here and I spent 2 days with the guy and I was completely in awe and star struck but also gutted at thinking he's over here for the money the guy is one of the G.O.A.T no doubt..
I love weekends like this for boxing because obviously some of the fights will be an anti climax but because theres so many a couple are bound to be good (touch wood). I'm looking forward to pascal-hopkins the most out out of those fights but it's likely to be the stinker as hopkins will be determined not to taste canvas this time. I think Roy spent **** loads on his record label.
Roy's made some bad investments, but i don't think he's broke to the point where he has to keep fighting. It's a mental thing with Jones Jr. at this point. He just can't stop and it's very sad, because this is a guy who would have a great case for a top 5 all time spot, had he retired after the Ruiz fight (some where even calling him the GOAT and it wasn't an outrageous thing to say at that time). Even worse, he's doing things which he never did in his prime (travelling abroad for fights and taking big risks). From recent interviews i get the feeling he's just ridiculously deluded and wants to prove something to himself...whatever that may be. It wouldn't be so bad if he just kept facing the Lacy types, fighters who are as shot as him or won't hurt/embarrass him, but that's not the case. He never recovered from the Tarver fights, mentally as well as physically and he's been fighting father time ever since.
