42 have not tried and failed. 42 have been picked to try and failed. Big difference.

No. Although he hides it well, I think Floyd loves boxing and is the type who will sadly fight way past his prime and suffer many unlikely defeats at the end of his career.

if he keeps fighting eventually he will get beat

everybody keeps saying that floyd will remain undefeated because he ain't fighting pacquiao or martinez.

i disagree with that, no stays on top forever.

he could still beat those guys and lose to somebody like khan, ortiz, or alexander.

I've always had the feeling that when Floyd loses it will be by shocking early KO, not dissimilar to what it must have felt like to see Roy Jones Jr knocked out for the first time (dont really remember this, was quite young and didn't follow boxing apart from Lewis and Tyson fights)

No chance, Mayweather has a phenomenal defence, great fundamentals and an iron chin. Jones had none of these qualities, and got exposed.

No. If he stays around too long

We are very close to the new generation of fighters moving into the top spots

With that kind of opposition, he can go on fighting for 100 more and retire undefeated.

I'm not saying it will be a similar loss in terms of what actually happens in the ring, but the level of shock will be the same as what I imagine it was like when Jones first got beat.

I just think as he gets older and loses a step, somebody will just catch him. I think thats more likely than him getting outboxed. I wouldn't say he has an iron chin either, I think it's decent and that's it.

He will handpick his fights for the rest of his career. So yes he will retire undefeated, but he will not have much of a legacy.

Yes that is true for some fighters...especially such aggressive punchers like Gatti and Manny. You are missing my point though....I am saying that a star like Fernando Vargas for example with drawing power, can't demand the same amount of money if he were to fight now because of the losses he has taken and his physical downfall. If Floyd lost lets say two fights in a row, he probably couldnt demand a 30 million dollar pay day anymore... which would make him less interested in carrying on. However the fact that he remains undefeated allows him to have such insane market power and more importantly the ability to demand so much money, the he might carry on one to many times and take a bad loss later on. I feel like Mayweather might pick on some up and coming fighter at 154 who he thinks cant touch him when he is 38 years old or so.... and his legs wont reach, he reflexes wont be there, and he will take a wide points loss to a younger more active fighter.
