Let's face it: Sergio Maravilla Martinez is the man to beat both at light middleweight and middleweight, he's ranked as the top fighter in both divisions by The Ring and he's willing and ready to fight anyone at any weight, but it seems he's just too damn good for his own good as ESPN reports he's having problems finding an opponent to share the same ring.

Mayweather mentioned Sergio but it's hardly going to happen and Williams refused to give him the deserved rematch, so the next logical superfight for Maravilla is WBA LMW champ Miguel Cotto. That is what the fans want, promoter Bob Arum however says "I know what the fans want, and they can go **** themselves."

"I fight whoever the Company wants me to fight" is what you get from Cotto, but sorry Miguel, that's not good enough. I you want 154lbs supremacy, you'll have to ask or demand this fight, or simply use Miguel Cotto Promotions to make a deal with Lou DiBella, and we'll have a FIGHT!

What a superb match-up it would be! Most people dismiss Cotto in other Maravilla threads, but that is nonsense. Miguel just beat a fine and fast boxer in Foreman coming back from a huge beating, changing coach and moving up in weight, and he did more than just fine. He and Steward is a great duo and Martinez has some holes a solid game plan can be built on. I like Maravilla because he's both an entertaining fighter and a thinker's boxer, and Cotto could do the same with Steward doing the thinking part. A fight with boxing and brawling, ups and down, shifting of momentum, that's what I see if this fight is happening, but first, Miguel Cotto should demand this one for his fans and legacy. But will he? :think

I'm pretty sure Cotto plans to go back to 147. If i was Cotto I'd stay away but you know what he's like, he fights anyone, anywhere. Probably why he is so respected as a fighter.

    I would.
Maravilla might be a big problem for him.

I think Maravilla should wait for a mayweather fight.

In my opinion Martinez is to big and to strong for Cotto. He is also very tough, and if you hurt him he wants to retaliate immedately. I think that combination spells trouble for Miguel who is pretty small at 154. I'd rather see Cotto drop back down to 147.

He already said that he wants to fight the big names. If he stays at 154 that will surely mean Martinez. Give him sometime though, Cotto fights whoever they put in front of him.

Miguel Cotto---"i only want big names"

cotto always fights the best so i expect martinez to be his opponent in the future. Cotto won't ducked no one.. he fought the best at welterweight and he will fight the best at jr middleweight.

    bring on martinez...

Cotto is a 147 in reality, Martinez is 154/160.

Cotto should go fight Berto, he has no business fighting at 154 and he definitely has no business fighting Martinez. And that shouldn't be considered ducking either.

All I saw in the Foreman fight is how bad Foreman really is. Cotto should fight guys like Chavez jr, or, John Duddy. He can't beat guys like Martinez.

come on mate, cotto has fought enough big names. he deserves a couple of easy defences and maybe a big name from 147 stepping up (i.e. pac/margo) he could easily fight spinks as well.

sergio is the mw lineal champ, i dont envision anyone knocking cotto if he dont fight sergio anytime soon

On a pound for pound basis Cotto is vastly superior to Martinez. Sergio will never be 15-2 in world title fights, nor is there even the remotest possibilty of Martinez winning 4 world titles in 3 divisions.

However, it is what it is, and Martinez is to big, to strong, and to tough for Cotto who is to small for the LMW division.

Avoid Martinez...you mean the way Margarito is avoiding Maravilla now?

For the record I think Martinez is a terrible match up for Cotto but it's still obviously an intriguing and compelling fight; so I say bring it on.

Why doesn't Martinez fight Dzinziruk or Mora if he's having trouble finding an opponent and is willing to fight anyone? Those two are worthy opponents and would fight Martinez in a heartbeat. And didn't Martinez's own promoter say that he didn't want Martinez to fight Williams again at this time? Cotto doesn't need Martnez, he has other options.

Martinez is pretty old for a guy who is just now peaking. Because of his age he probably won't stay at the top for very long. That means he needs to make his money quickly. Fights with Mora and Dzinzurik probably wouldn't pay much.
