I don't see what's funny. Care to explain how Margarito wasn't a stylistic challenge for someone with Cotto's disadvantages?
Was Clottey a stylistic disadvantage who many people believe Cotto got a gift against? What about a past it Mosley who many at the time felt could have been a draw either way Cotto barely getting by the skin of his teeth. Why do you keep ignoring that Cottos last 3 opponents were either injured or severly past there best yet Cotto still struggled against Mayorga who was able to land 50% of his powershots against him and was still being caught by a shop worn one eyed margarito? There is nothing elite about Cotto bub. Even in his "prime" he was struggling against the likes of Paulie Malignaggi, ngoudjo and jose torres. As someone eloquently put it. If Mayweather was fighting he likes of jennings and gomez hed look like a dominatin powerpuncher aswell.
Foreman wasn't injured until Cotto pressured him; that knee problem had been with him his whole career, and it never gave him problems until Cotto pressured him so much that he slipped and twisted it. Mayorga came in much better shape than expected, had a size advantage, and always had an awkward style. Don't know what 50% you're seeing; if you're citing compubox, I'm going to have to heavily disagree with it. Margarito has fought the same way he always has; giving or taking a few rounds because of his eye does not change the fundamental improvements Cotto has made to his game. Cotto is better than 99 percent of boxers out there, and was a former top-ten pound-for-pound titlist, and his win over Mosley, far fresher than when Floyd fought him, could easily be called the best single win either has on their resume. He has proven his skill, and anyone who studies the game can see a skilled and talented fighter when they see one. Nobody is arguing Cotto is an ATG; I'm just tired of people polarizing fighters with disrespect, stupid hyperbolic arguments, and straight up dishonesty just because they heavily favor their favorite over another. You'll never see me do that, and I'll never hesitate to call a hater out when their technical arguments make no sense.
I hope for Miguel's sake he stops that ridiculous amateurish toe-tap just before he throws a jab. Pac was watching his feet the entire first half of the fight and simply picked his ass apart because of it.
Cotto has never been a legitimate champion at any weight class he has fought. He has never been a linear champion. There is a reason he was never put in with those fighters. He has never been the best fighter at any weight he has fought. Lara, Pwil, Kirkland, Alvarez, and the man he is fighting, Mayweather, are all better at 154 than Cotto. Guys like Molina, Trout, and Martirosyan would all have a good shot with him. Don't look for Cotto to fight any of the above after Mayweather slaps him around. He will need a softer spot to get another W. Cotto is far from the best fighter on Mayweather's resume and Mayweather will need a couple more fights to prove he is the man at 154. I'm not here to **** on Cotto but his resume is what it is and his deficiencies are real. If I call Mike Stewart a regional fighter or Matt Vanda a Journeyman I'm not calling names or denigrating them. I'm calling them exactly what they are and the same should go for Cotto.
To each their own. Stay wrong on this right up till fight night. If you have balls you'll manage to lose some money on this one. You better hope for a bizarre disqualification or injury if you take these odds.
What odds? I'm conceding that Mayweather should be the favorite, but that Cotto on his best night with the right preparation has a shot. There's nothing "wrong" about entertaining different scenarios with technical observations; you're the one whose dogmatically shitting on Cotto's accomplishments, and by doing that, you're shitting on the pyramid of fighters that exist below him and tainting the name of the sport just because you insist Mayweather has to win no matter what. Become a fan of the actual sport instead of being a fanboy/hater and coming out with **** saying Cotto has never fought a "legitimate" champion, while he has arguably the best single win on either his or Floyd's resume, and then I'll take your arguments seriously.
No. He will put Mayweather on the ropes. Might not get a lot done while he's there, but he won't be backpedaling.
