Will Mijares get robbed once again in his hometown on Saturday?

'Robbed in hometown' is something you hear quite often in boxing, but getting robbed in your own hometown, well, that's very rare. But Cristian Mijares, a superb counter-puncher, somehow just doesn't get credit for his pure technical effort. He dominated Jose Navarro last year yet one judge gave every single round to the opponent, clearly beat Alex Munoz, but yet again only won by split decision.

Vs. Nehomar Cermeno this March, IMO he won a close but clear decision (116-113 on my card), landing the more meaningful punches and blocking most of the busy returns, yet two judges gave the fight to Cermeno - who won by split decision.

Scoring the round for the more effective (counter-)puncher is pretty usual in higher weight classes, but a 1) bantamweight 2) Mexican 3) counter-puncher seems too absurd for judges.

So on Saturday, Mijares will once again fight the unbeaten Cermeno in Monterrey, Mexico, and he's not only facing the nightmares of Darchinyan, the very capable Venezuelan, but judges, who might not give credit for his effective technical style.

Will there be another robbery in Mijares' hometown - getting robbed in front of your own crowd?

Mijares needs to get his desire back. I remember reading an interview before the Darchinyan fight where he was rambling about becoming a pilot or something. Maybe the Cermeno fight woke him up, or maybe it's just time to move on.

    Guess we find out Saturday.

Wasn't there another example in '09 of someone else being robbed (according to the majority or a large minority on ESB, anyway) in their own backyard? :huh

Nah, that was clearly a Sturm crowd. Felt just blatant to me though. I know a lot of Germans had it scored for Sturm, but I can't figure out for the life of me why.

Amsterdam was neither the first nor the last Mijares fan on ESB. Time to disassociate the two - Amsterdam is long gone. :deal

Maybe Tim Duncan should learn to dunk fifty times a game if he wants to win some more championships.

Well the fight is not in Mijares hometown. Monterrey is not his hometown if thats where they are fighting.

Mijares is from the same city im from. Well our cities are connected. He is from Gomez Palacios and im from Torreon.

Darchinyan knocked him out, he wasn't robbed in that one.

Mijeres is a hype job, Robbed my ass. If the guy would win the fights it wouldnt be an issue. Too many close fights with people calling that a fighter was robbed.

Do you even know what you're talking about? Other than Cermeno, what "fights" are you talking about? The stigma of Mijares getting robbed by some judges (even in fights he officially won) has stuck because there's validity to it. Go watch the Navarro or Munoz fights and tell me those scorecards are all totally legit.

So... defending a guy who's getting jobbed by the judges... is hype in your little world? Boxing fans are the worst.
