Will Mike Perez be another Mike Tyson??

Whatever.

Managers and promoters of "next Mike Tyson"- or "next David Tua"-level prospects don't damage their credibility by putting them in "tournaments" of this ilk, especially against a collection of bums.

Perez needs to fight Monk Foreman in a carnival somewhere.

 

Audley Harrison got a world title fight,more or less, on the back of prizefighter as did willie casey

 

In the current Heavyweight era, Mike Perez has a chance (with improvements to his technique & conditioning) to be another "David Tua" & beat Ring ranked contenders & ex-beltholders... however, in the '90s which was stacked with big punchers, he would likely be "nothing special", judging by what we've seen so far in footage of his first 16 bouts.

 

He's a good prospect.

 

Perfect examples of what I'm talking about -- these guys' management and promoters knew they weren't for real, so went the carnival route to build up false credibility so they could cash in.

Don't forget that respectable fighters like Juan Carlos Gomez, Kevin Johnson and Fres Oquendo were supposed to perform that night. It was not Perez's fault that they pulled out and were replaced by lesser fighters. It shows he was willing to put his record on the line against 3 established opponents.

 

It looks like the next knockout victim of Perez will be Audley.

I hope Perez smashes him in the first round, to put Haye's effort to shame.

I'd be pumped if he fought Audley, at least he's staying active that way.

You know who i want to train Perez don't you... Rooney, but that would require Perez to move to the NY mountain town of Catskill & train like a spartan warrior. Sadly i reckon Perez would rather have fun in Cork, Ireland... he has weighed in at over 235lbs (238, 242, 244) in 3 of his 16 fights so far, which is very disapointing for a 6'0 Heavy.
