We saw him to this against Pacquiao in their 3rd fight. Do you think if he starts losing he will quit again ?
Nope. He'll at least try to get his shots in and will be good enough to neutralize SOME of Matthysse's offense if he starts losing badly. His corner might stop it thought, if it's brutal, but Matthysse's not a huge volume puncher.
He stopped because he did everything in camp necessary to win the fight. In the ring, he did everything he could to beat Manny and was getting beaten down. There was nothing he could do to win the fight, so he quit to avoid a senseless slaughter. You ever wonder why people don't ever criticize him for this? He'll give it all he has against Matthysse, and he won't surrender.
You know what, I dont have any problem with a fighter that knows he's beat, surrenders. Morales had taken a beating form the midpoint of his 2nd fight with Pacquiao on.......then Pacquiao started right off in the 3rd fight where he left off in fight 2. Pacquiao overwhelmed Morales with speed and power and there was'nt much Morales could do but stay on the canvas to be counted out, or get up and risk his physical and mental well being. I applaud Morales for sitting on the canvas and waited to be counted. Most fighters dont know when or how to surrender. Morales imo did it with class and dignity. He sat there on the canvas, looked at the ref, the crowd, the arena, and in his own words afterward remininced what his career was all about in those few seconds he was on the canvas......to which Morales in the post fight interview when asked what he was thinking sitting there, he said he was thinking "what a great night to say goodbye." .....that my friends is a fighter who had no embarassment, second thoughts, or anything of the sort for the decision to not fight on. .....anybody that cant respect that and has to call a fighter a quitter, I just feel sorry for. Erik Morales is the epitome of a true Warrior and I say that without any reservations.:deal
Erik Morales is allowed to quit in any fight until he retires. The fact that some think he quit against Pacquiao at all is sick.
