    What up guys,
I've been hitting the heavy bag almost everyday for the past two weeks, and my pinkie fingers on both hands are always a bit sore (due to poor technique which I'm currently trying to correct). Now, I always wrap my hands and sometimes apply ice to reduce the imflammation, but the question I'm asking is will the tendons and ligaments in my hands strenthen over time if I continue to hit the heavy bag? Any advice would be much appreciated.

I know I should probably rest a day or two in between sessions, but right now I'm very addicted to hitting the bag. -WIB

No you will have to learn to box like Calzaghe and never spar just run instead.

Even though I'm starting off on a 100lb bag (I weigh 150-155lbs), I don't want the bag to be easier for me to hit. I just want to know if after my hand heals, will it then become stronger? Similar to the premise that after one does a bench press, the muscles in their chest tear, and when they heal become larger and stronger.

yeah man, your hands will toughen. Stronger? I dont know about that you wont build too much muscle in your hands. Itl get use to the pressure thats for sure. What you should be strengthening is your wrists.

how long are your hand wraps? or even how heavy and protective are your gloves?

I used to hit the bag with 10 oz bag gloves and my knuckles would get bruised. It took a while before that stopped happening.

My gloves are 12oz, and my wraps are way too short. I've been looking for the longer wraps around here but have been unsuccessful thus far. I'm thinking about using someone's advice about putting sponges in the wraps as I believe this would help.

dont hit the bad as hard while your hand is hurt. I have the same problem with my jabbing hand, my middle knuckle get really swollen up. I got new gloves and it seems to have solved it, but still plays up a little but. Your hands will get use to hitting a heavy bag. Get some decent gloves, that could be your problem.
Dont wrap your hands to tight either. That was part of my problem.

They probably will, mine did, but when they're hurting go easy otherwise you may agitate the problem instead of letting it heal properly.

I had the same thing when i first started. I got used to it, also got the longest hand wraps i could find and also use 16oz gloves. Starting to have the same problem again now that my technique and therefore power has improved. I can feel the difference in power however i sometimes feel pain in my hands and wrists. Been told i really need to tape my hands now with duct tape as well as wrapping them. Also im thinking i might get a piece of sponge or something and wrap it over the knuckles if you get what i mean

Also i think when you first start you shouldnt hit the bag everyday and dont go all out with poor technique. Your hands, joints , ligaments ect need to get used to the new strain your putting them under so lots of rest is needed ( i.e shadow boxing! :D)
I consider myself a complete beginner by the way just going off what iv been told. Been boxing for a while now but i still take it easy on the bag , better to hit with correct technique nice and lightly if you know what i mean than hit as hard as possible poorly!

The body is a funny thing. Just enough pain and strain and your body will evolve/adapt to handle it's new requirements. Too much pain and strain and your body will be damaged and shut down.

    Example:
Hit the bag and your skin will thicken, as will your bones. You will in effect get tougher. (body adapts)

Hit the bag like a moron, damage your hand and then it will get swollen etc (body damaged and shuts down)

Used a sponge under each wrap today and it made a world of a difference.
