I would love to see thi one at Featherweight. an all time legend vs and up and coming mexican legend whose legacy was cut off early due to a motor accident. Pep wins split decision in a very controversial and close fight Opinions?
If I had to pick a style to beat Sanchez, Pep's would be it. Not just any boxer is going to beat Sanchez, but we're talking about one of the greatest ever in Pep. Sanchez lights up just about anybody who comes to him. I think Sanchez's patience and confidence would get him in trouble here and I'd see him losing a close decision. The Ruben Castillo fight comes to mind bit, and Pep was a few notches up from Castillo.
i am. Pep. Nah, but it is a nice chess match. I still favor pep with his feet and feints keeping sanchez perplexed.
This, except that I tend to see Pep at his best outpointing Sal quite comprehensively. Just a bad style for Sanchez to overcome imo with Pep jabbing, shifting and feinting and working from the right angles without ever allowing Sanchez to set himself or find his timing on a consistent basis. Sanchez was far from incompetent on the front foot, but he wasn't the same animal there as the one who carved up the incoming targets of Lopez, Gomez and Nelson.
*Pep's great... i have him as my greatest fighter of all time.. i switch back and fouth every two years between him and SRR... but if ur going to put Pep against someone that might beat him, it's the great Salvador Sanchez... Can u believe that Sanchez was only 21yrs old! We hadn't even seen him in his prime yet! Sanchez beat great fighter after great fighter... he was simpley amazing. *If Sandler could land on Pep, so would Sanchez..except Sanchez power and precision is second to none... i'm in the minority... i pick sanchez.
apologies to all but sanchez i think gets a bit overrated. much like marquez, he looks GREAT against guys who come right at him. gomez, lopez were absolutely perfect for him. whereas nelson (a green one) gave him hell. pep is not gomez or lopez and would give sanchez angles and movement he's never seen. i agree with easier posts that said that sal wouldn't be able to get set...his brilliant timing would be nullfied by the poetry in motion of pep Pep UD
Pep would be too fast n slick IMO, Sanchez was a great technician & counter-puncher, very accurate but I think he would be frustrated by Pep.
Yeah, really...I usually say "Pep" right away in mythical featherweight matchups...but Sal Sanchez was a special fighter..allways did think so..and I still can't make up my mind....yet.
salvador is way to fast and strong for pep to even make a fight of it salvador wins with rather ease via 1st round kayo:think
