I guess you missed the part where Williams said he's go to Germany for the fight? If Sergiy is worth more money in Germany then Williams is in the US, why should they need to fight here? Everyone wants the bigger names and big money. But you have to work your way to them, or be a huge draw right off the bat to get big money. The general public doesn't know who Paul Williams is, so how can they demand a fight? Williams is still far from a draw. It takes more then winning a big fight to be a name. Ask Winky or Shane how that went for them.
I didn't know Williams had said that. Hell, that makes me even more of a williams fan. And the thought didn't even cross my mind to make the fight in germany. If it would be a hot seller and rake in some respectable change for the punisher then I could see him going for it. I think its pretty clear that he is looking for a good challenger, at least this guy will be impressive to the euro fans, its better then Andy Kolle who didnt impress anyone. Williams should grind it out and take on these challenges IMO. Forget about all the haters on the internet, if he keeps beating these guys eventually the top dogs wont have a choice but to step up. Shame that cut looks like itll take a while to toughen up.
Yea its too true. Ducking is intentional avoiding of a fight because you are scared of the results. Ie; Antonio Margarito and Co. turning down the rematch with Williams to get half the change against an old dog. Turning down a fight is simply taking a different fight as oppose to one that doesnt offer much monetarily or for respect, rankings whatever. Everyone is so quick to say someones ducking, mostly Margo fan boys. Put your heads on straight.
may 9th? what the ****! he's going to want to have a big fight by then.that's a pretty long layoff if you ask me
It was in some interview he said he'd go there. Glad to hear him say that rather then something like "Who he fought?" Ain't nothing to it but to do it. :thumbsup
this fight has no marketability in germany either believe me... i was ringside for his last fight against Julio... there were like 300 people in the room who cared for the fight.. the other 10.000 were drinking and eating and not watching.. the fight was shown on german television at 1 in the night. He has never been a main event... Anything below middleweight isn't marketable in Germany, especially if it is not a german fighter... Add the fact that no one in Germany knows Paul Williams, this fight will never happen. Williams just brought that up to look tough, especially that he is willing to fight him in Germany, cause he gets paid well there. It's nonsense, Sergyi gets paid peanuts.
lol why do i get the feeling that people are talking out of their ass about Sergiy Dzinziruk? No one was talking about Sergiy before and all of a sudden he's the **** :huh
Well then forget this fight and move on. And don't say its ducking, and don't even blame it on politics of boxing. If someone wants to get a big fight with an rising star in the US then they need to earn it. And winning fights and being a great fighter isn't all there is to earning these big fights. People often forget boxing is entertainment first, sport second. Sure the fight will be entertaining, but who will tune in? Joel Julio is a decent feather in his cap, but if the germans arent interested either this fight is pointless. Lets not forget people PW is WBO WELTERWEIGHT champ first, 154 Interim champ is his part time job. I just want to see him defend his WW belt. Someone of note please fight this guy.
No one is saying he's the **** are they? But he's a very good JrMw who can arguably be ranked higher then Williams @ 154 so far. And it's a good fight to make, if it can happen.
I see no ducking here. Quite the opposite really. What I question is Williams management choosing to stick with the WBO and taking his first fight at 154 for the interim WBO belt, thus naturally setting up a fight down the line with the actual WBO champ in Dzindzurik, which would be a very difficult fight (style-wise) against a guy that doesn't bring a lot of name recognition or money to the table outside of Germany or the Ukraine. The idea that everyone is afraid to fight PW is dying fast. Clottey's been calling him out. Although he lost, Phillips did a lot to make that fight happen, even giving up his IBF belt. Dzindziruk is obviously looking forward to fighting him. After last weekend, there will probably be more guys asking to fight PW at 154 in the near future.
Just to be clear about this "Most Feared Man" business. IT'S A STRATEGY. You guys get that, don't you? When Margarito couldn't get a title shot, his promotional team declared him the most feared, most ducked, fighter in the business. It was a way to build buzz around Margarito and to force the hands of the top Welterweights. He did it to create and public outcry and depended on message boards like this to take it and run with it. Paul Williams in in the SAME boat Margarito was a couple years back. They're trying to goad other fighters into the ring by calling on their manhood and to build an aura around Williams so he can maximize audience share. "Most feared," "Most ducked" These are marketing phrases. The fact is now that Margarito is on top, his team wants to get the biggest fights possible -- not simply to fight anyone and everyone. They have the power now and they're using it. Expect the same from Williams when he gets his belt.
It's about time SD talks about leaving Germany to fight in the states. SD has had home cooking his whole career. Fans use the word "duck" too much when it comes to talking about the top fighters in the world. I have not seen a fighter duck another fighter in years. Sure it's good to joke with Margarito and other fighters, but some of you seem serious about your accusations. If it doesn't make dollars, it doesn't make cents/sense.
You just want the fight in Germany because Williams can possibly be beaten or robbed in Germany. You would love for PW to lose so that you don't have to hear that AM is ducking Williams. SD said he would love to fight here in the U.S so direct your comments about SD fighting here. We know Williams could make money fighting overseas, but SD is 32, and has had home cooking his whole career. If they say the fight is in Germany...if I were Williams, I wouldn't go.
