There are a few good reasons to....

    # 1 He might find himself much stronger at 168 then 160
    # 2 He might have problems going back down to 160 after being 168
    # 3 There are big BIG money fights with Hopkins,Calzaghe,Kesseler and Bute for Pavlik at 168:deal

    Reasons to stay at 160

#1 If leaves the middleweights he loses money fights with Abraham,Duddy, Mora, Winky and Sturm
#2 At middleweight Pavlik would be favored over his contenders while at supermiddle he might be the underdog when fighting the top guys:deal

So what do you guys think Pavlik will do ,stay at 168 or go back down to 168?:huh

He should take that paper title away from Abraham.

There is nothing left at 160 lbs once Taylor is gone.

At 168+ you have potential big money fights with Calzaghe/Kessler winner, Winky, Dawson, Jones, Hopkins, Trinidad, etc... etc... etc...

No, he should go back down to 160 immediately where he can focus on guys like Abraham, Sturm, Wright, Duddy, Sylvester, Karmazin, Mora, Lorenzo, etc. Because Kessler and Calzaghe would be the guys to fight and I don't think he's ready for them.

if he can make 160 , stay at 160

never understood this cry for every boxer to move up in weight.

160 is a blue ribond division and pavlik if he can can make a legacy for himself there.

given his power /good interviewer and tv he should make enough at middle .
168 is a euro dominated division and just as i do not see why the top well paid euros should trvel to america, the same for the top americans should not have to come to europe, unless the money on the table is so much it makes it viable from whichever continent.

I agree with Sean except for the last part. Well first Pavlik has plenty left to do at 160 for a few years Abraham, Sturm, Karmazin, Sylvester, Winky(who is a middleweight by the way and you can be sure he wants none of it)and Duddy. Please people(including the author) don't mention Mora as a potential opponent for Pavlik it's really mindbending how people come to terms with this being a remotely credible fight. We also need to remember that besides Kessler and Calzaghe there's not much at 168 for him either maybe Bute, Mundine, Froch, and Lacy. We have to keep in mind also that a few of Pavlik's castaways are top contenders at 168 Zuniga, Zertuche, Miranda, Taylor. Also for the record Hopkins would go down like Mora. Hopkins is easily the most overhyped underaccomplished fighter in the history of the sport and it would be easy work for Pavlik, it would be like Holyfield-Ibragimov only with an early KO ending for Pavlik. The four above mentioned castaways also have the potential to be champions at 168. So again with the exception of Calzaghe and Kessler it's "been there done that" at 168. So is going to 168 right away the best thing for Pavlik? No...After the Taylor rematch he should start his quest for full unification at 160 and hold it for a couple years by this time Kessler will have unified the titles at 168. Meanwhile Pavlik should start a campaign of slaughtering the German pretenders and do in Germany that way their own people (who are somehow brainwashed into thinking Abraham is the real middleweight champ) know who the real champ is when their guy is pissin himself in the ring from a left to the body.

Or AA sends him down for the 10 count and Americans must realize that the unisputed mw champion is based in Germany...still Pavlik is the undisputed champ at the moment...

Either scenario works for fight fans. If he stays at 160, then Abraham (preferably) or Sturm can be tapped for a unification. At 168, American fight fans will have the opportunity to see either Mikkel Kessler or Joe Cazaghe taken on the Youngstown hero. This provided (maybe) on him beating Taylor. Jermain isn't going to be the ignorant fool he was last time, dismissing Pavlik as a lucky chump. Well...it's possible, but not likely. If takes Pavlik serious this time around, he may well find a way to outperform Pavlik to a decision win. Taylor KOing Kelly is unlikely because right now Pavlik has incredible heart and strength to pull himself off the canvas when most fighters can't do it. Pavlik's camp is in control, so the idea of a lightweight ref like Terry O'Connor (Calzaghe/Manfredo) who's quick to wave off won't happen. That's a big advantage for Kelly. I see this is a harder fought fight that Pavlik will still pull off. If super middle is in his future, Kessler will be harsher threat. Calzaghe will probably be sapped after his (probable) win like Joe Louis after the second Walcott fight. A fighter on Pavlik's level will KO Calzaghe now (which is how Kessler will win, if he wins).

In repsonse to the Hopkins remark, he's not overhyped but he would lose badly to Pavlik.

Forgive my ignorance, but is this fight a done deal? I have heard nothing official, or are you assuming that it will materialise anyway, given the rematch clause?

Tom_Tocca who has AA beaten? Miranda was a gift to be kind. Aside from that fight AA fights chumps. Why not ask ourselves why Abraham has'nt had a desire to unify with Sturm?? What's stopping him?? I'll tell you what: Balls. Abraham has none. The fight with Miranda only proved he can take a beating, thats it. Sturm is an equal in the chump champ department, however he can box better than AA. Pavliks already called them out and we're waiting for a response from the chump champs. They'll be pissing their own blood when it's over.
