Will Sam Peter show his awesome power against Maskaev?

Sorry Punisher even though you tried to avoid my point it still remains .. every single one of those fighters had a great skill set and used the fouling to add to that (mind you i do not condone it)

And sorry his so called "improved technique" is not even in the same dimension as the other fighters on your list.

If he had any technique to speak off he would not be in so much trouble against somebody as McCline... the same McCline that got obliterated in his prime by Wlad. (not much time to adjust is a excuse but not good enough to explain his performance)

You are stretching reality to nuthug Peter wich is your good right but it makes it hard to have any debate left.

I have said in the past that i thought of Peter as a poor mans Tua but hes not even good enough to be that now.
Lets hope Povetkin livesup to the expectation.

I'm sorry Geppy but you are wrong here. Sam Peter has proven time and time again that he has more than just power to win a fight. Why don't you see this? He has dominated rounds against guys like Pudar, Hawkins, Toney and even being dropped 3 times by McCline he won virtually every other round. And I have never seen anyone put so many flush punches on James Toney. No, Batchelder did not do that. Batchelder basically made a fight a no-contest by avoiding Toney throughout.

His jab is very good and is only getting better. His punch rate and stamina have also been noticeably better over the past few fights. To say that Maskaev will have a decided advantage in the jab and generalship department is a bit jumping the gun.

 

After having his face so battered and swollen by Wladimir, and his failiure to drop the supposed, biggest china chin in the divsion....................and then seeing how McCline dropped Peter three times, and Peter's supposedly, power from the GODS , was never enough to even hurt McCline, much less drop him.......................I think the Peter supporters are getting desperate as they try to continue to hype Peter as a brutal KO puncher from the same mold as Liston and Tyson: the next big thing in the heavyweight division....


Cause noone else is buying it, anymore.

Peter was hyped as being so dangerous because he was thought have incredible power, and a rock solid chin. It turns out both of those attributes are over-rated for Peter! Peter has not knocked anyone out yet ( he didnt even stun Mccline the slightest), and was all but out against Mccline, he was in grave danger of being stopped.

You would think Peter fan boys would come down to earth, because as for speed and skills Peter is nothing special for a World Class HW. Peter very well could be KTFO by Maskaev , because he is always lumbering foreward with a ponderous defense .

Just Maskaev seeing that fight has to boost his confidence! He knows he can hurt Peter now , and should fight the same figth plan he used against Rahman; using ring movement, angles and picking his shots.

 

Verry good post. Although I never really bought into the whole Sam Peter thing. Don't know why everyone nut huggs him. Hes not that special. Maskaev UD.

 

i think Oleg will outbox Peter and win the descision.He will expose Peter for the fat slow one dimensional behomoth he is.Peter has some power,his biggest problem though is a lack of brain power not to mention natural boxing technique.

 

If Peter doesnt win this fight, he is never going to win a World Title. Really, Maskaev has been KO'd 5 times, this is Peter's chance. But Maskaev really has improved his defense tremendously since then, protecting his one major weakness. He has the fire power and skills to hurt and outbox Peter.

If Peter loses this fight, I have a feeling he is going to be joining the ranks of Michael Grant, TOS Williamson, Dominick Guinn , as much publicized/ hyped fighters ; that just didnt have it and disapointed & made fools of many fans.

 

If Oleg lands a flush clean shot it could be a KO loss for Peter.
Mccline had him on his ass 3 times, but isn't as heavy handed as the Russian, if Oleg hurts him he could finish him.
A dangerous fight for Peter, but im glad it's finally gonna happen after all of the B.S these guy's have been thru for the past 9 months..:thumbsup

 

Peter's power isn't "awesome" however you don't need awesome power to KO Maskaev, as has been proven repeatedly

 

Peter is not fat first of all. He is natually very thick.

Second of all, Peter has brain power. He kept his composure against McCline after getting decked 3 times. He knew he had to go back to boxing and using his much improved jab. He showed improved body punching as well.

And say what you want to say (former middleweight, fatass, etc) but against James Toney in the second fight, he showed the ability to use and stick to an effective gameplan. He didn't smother his attack when Toney languished against the ropes, he controlled the distance, and he did some nice countering work - especially when Toney would throw the lead left hook.

Peter's power may be overrated as it seems to me, as a fan, that he is definitely not a Tua, Tyson, or Foreman type puncher that some built him up as. With that said, he has very good power and his skills are improving. And the latter cannot be denied.

To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me to see Maskaev beat him, but I'll stick with my original prediction.
