HBO still has very deep pockets and can sustain for a long time. It would take more then Showtime/ / GBP to put them under.

HBO is playing a game of chicken. We'll see who blinks first.

People seem to forget this has happened before in the 90's when Showtime had most of the Don King fighters and Mike Tyson.

HBO boxing survived that, I imagine it will survive GBP and Mayweather going to Showtime.

Such nonsense.HBO is bigger, better and has a lot more resources at it's disposal. If not for CBS(Showtimes owner),Sho would be lost in the hinterlands.HBO will be the number 1 premium network for the foreseeable future and then some.

HBO has a better reputation. Even if Showtime has the better boxing program, HBO is known to have better original series. I can see this move getting them more subscribers, but I doubt it'll win them the subscription war overall. The last time I was home, they were showing a movie starring the Insane Clown Posse on Showtime Extreme (or one of their channels). I'm not saying I wasn't mindlessly entertained by it, but, needless to say, quality isn't great all around on their networks. lol

Also, Mayweather is banking most of the money off of the PPV. Showtime didn't make much from his last fight.

Showtime is moving up. The showbox extreme is good for boxing. This upcoming PPV event on sept14th is a big step up for showtime. I doubt that HBO will be overrun but showtime is giving HBO some real Competition. PPV helps to attract a global market. Having Mayweather for possibly 6 PPV shows in 30 months MIGHT elevate showtime, if they can continue to put together great cards like the one coming in sept. Also the showtime original DEXTER is in its 8th season I think and is avery good show.

    Over Boxing ? Hell No

HBO can stop doing Boxing al together and no one will care, and they will still continue to make Money, with or with Boxing.

In fact they can replace boxing with tennis and make more money from tennis or ice skating for that matter.

True but HBO is known for being a leader in Boxing coverage and that is something I don't think they WANT to lose. They can maybe afford to, but thats not the same thing. Mayweather can afford to retire today, but he won't.:patsch

I can't help thinking that all Showtime has are three weight classes. Outside of that, it's all HBO territory. :think

Funniest thread title I've read in a while. One Game of Thrones episode costs 6 million dollars to make, and there are 10 per year. Boardwalk Empire's pilot alone cost 20 Million dollars. HBO has about 30 other big-name shows. Do the math. No, they will not go out of business because Showtime is putting on a few pay per view events. I'm not entirely convinced Showtime didn't lose millions on Mayweather's last fight.

Showtime lost millions which is why GBP and Foyd are making Canelo-vs Floyd, and stack the undercards to make a great event. To try and make that money back....Or they are **** out of luck, all this talk of guarantees is pointless, if there is no money there to pay every body gets ****ed.
