I am thinking about getting these gloves here http://store.titleboxing.com/rihipeprospg1.html I've heard great things about their gloves... but they are a bit pricey. So I was wondering if sparring gloves would hold up against a heavybag. We don't spar much at our gym, but when we do, the gym gloves are too big, torn, and smell like ****.
It is not a good idea to use sparring gloves on the heavy bag. The leather will tear and then the padding will start to come out. http://www.amazon.com/Joe-Gans-Biography-American-Champion/dp/0786439947/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_b
I think needing different sparing and bag gloves is crap. I have two pairs of Everlast professional training gloves. They were 80 dollars new and I have a pair of white and a pair of black (I like to color coordinate, look good feel good, feel good do good). I use them both for bag mitts sparing, boxing in general. Ive had one pair for about 3 years and one pair for about 1 year. They're both still in great shape. So as long as you buy descent gloves and take care of em, I think you're safe. The majority of the guys on my fight team are the same way.
We're the same way at our gym, except most of us use the gloves that the coach provides so we don't give a damn. But yeah, I was planning on getting the rival sparring gloves. But if they'll mess up doing bag work, I might as well get the rival elite bag gloves
i have 2 pairs of gloves 12oz and 16oz, i only use the 160z for sparring because they are like pillows, they are massive. The 120z i also use for sparring, pads, heavy bag, drills and general trainig and ive never had a problem with tearing. They are starting to wear but you have to expect that, i have had the 12oz gloves for 2 years. They have not torn from hitting the heavy bag or anything else yet.
Not only that but as I was always taught .. the padding is of a different quality in sparring\Professional\Bag gloves. That's why at most, if not all of the top gyms .. you will not be allowed to use bag gloves for a sparring match. You will bust someone up good with bag gloves.
The only real factor that I think might play into that is if the heavy bag is canvas or leather... or if you're punching bricks. I remember an idiot said he punched bricks to "toughen" his hands before on here. Dumbass. :-(
Cheap sparring gloves will certainly wear out on a bag. I once broke a guys nose during friendly sparring with an uppercut(extremely uncool, actually), and clearly felt his nose between the second and third knuckle on my right hand . Those gloves were used for both things, and should have been changed way earlier. If you can feel anything but a general impact through your gloves the padding has been permanently compressed and should not be used on anyone you dont intend to hurt.
i agree with that, before one of my bouts i had the competition gloves on and i was warming up and i started to hit a bag, one of the officials came and told me not to hit the bag with them because it stiffens up the padding. Since then i dont like seeing guys hitting the bag with the gyms sparring gloves after i was told that.
Ringside IMF Techs should, but why would you do that? 1) Makes your gloves hard and hurt your team mates 2) Makes your gloves filthy again, hurting your team mates. Cut off cable, stop eating fast food, and by two pair.
I always have my own sparring gloves and bag/mitts gloves I had my ribs bruised in my last gym by some dumbass wearing worn out 12oz bag gloves. I like my gym mates and dont want to injury them for just getting in some rounds :bbb
Sparring gloves and bag gloves have different types of padding. Sparring gloves will wear out quicker. Not necessarily fall apart, but lose their utility. Kinda like an old pair of running shoes...they look fine, but the padding and all that wears out and next thing you know you've got joint problems. Except in this case your sparring partners have headaches.
