I never got more explosive by lifting…
I got to hit harder/faster by punching properly. I don’t think anyone has gotten more explosive for boxing by lifting weights. Lift the weights for your health and the beach by all means though, it’s good for you.
I ain’t a teacher or a fighter but tons of guys lifted weights and came in every variation of boxer.

True, calisthenics I think are way better.

I think that legs power comes from roadwork, movement and skipping ropes.

Only exercise for power in my mind is remembering to punch properly.
Practicing the movement thousands of times so when you call on it it’s a reflex not a conscious strain.
Shadow box everyday, get loose and punch right every time that’s all there is to it - all the running, skipping and squats in the world won’t make you hit harder.

Right...the form is the best thing for punching power.

I used to push my fights hard.

Just getting in there and doing everything that I was trained to do.

Once you learn to relax enough to start thinking a world will open up for you.

    Make it happen.

I don't think that squatting will slow you down.

As a matter of fact, I recommend squatting.

Strong legs to keep you up as you are remembering what planet that you are on.

But if some cat touches you correct than you are going down.

No matter how much you ran, gow many squats you did... etc.

Keep those eyes sharp doe, essentially they are your chin.

Don’t listen to anyone saying it’ll slow you down, I’m an expert in this field and while squatting, or lifting in general won’t make you faster, (won’t make you slower either) it will increase your power since power=speed and peak force generation combined, lifting increases your peak force development and combined with plyometrics it will greatly improve performance in that area.
Lifting heavy with free weights (not machines) will also greatly improve your stability since you have to balance and stabilise under heavy load.

No, even heavy weights won’t slow you down as long as you’re still boxing and doing explosive work (plyometrics) which is basically using a really light weight and exploding with it as fast as you can, like punching with a cable attachment, or jumping and turning with explosiveness, also rotating the hips whilst throwing a medicine ball or using a cable, as long as you do that (plyometrics) you won’t lose speed.
You don’t necessarily need calisthenics, you just need to do some heavy work, like 6-8 reps for peak force, you can even mix in 3 rep maxes at times as long as you have the form on point, then you’ll need some lighter work like 20-40 reps for endurance.

I like explosive calisthenics, good about punching power.

What you think about resistance bands for speed?
