If Cotto had had a decent cornerman........ he may have a chance against Margarito.

That said, Margo's will and desire in the first match (not to mention his durability) was simply amazing - whatever you say about his boxing ability......

Cotto would gain by clinching - in the seventh round I was shouting at my laptop telling him to grab, even though I was rooting for Margarito!

Shane put Margarito through hell, Shane will be reminded of fathertime in the ring on that night. Do you want to put your money where your mouth is dude? Its easy to spout predictions but would you bet your house on it ?

Cotto finish Margarito, and how exactly will he finish Margarito ? I think if they fought again it would go 12 rounds but I think Margarito would be much more aggressive 2nd time around even more so than the 1st time. He will look to cause some sort of damage early, maybe to the nose again and he will keep the body shots raining in.

To predict a winner would be stupid...As Cotto was doing very well upto about the 5th round when you could see the change of momentum...

I'm sorry, but this is a terrible comparison.

Cotto's problem appears to be a lack of stamina; he was beating Margarito stupid in the first few rounds, moving up and down the ropes and pot-shotting the head off the Mexican; when he ran low on fuel and began to stay on the ropes he was ****ed and Margarito took advantage to beat the resistance out of him.

Agreed...I dont think he will improve on stamina for the next fight either so if he continues to use those legs something has got to give...and I think Margarito might even be in even better condition for the rematch providing he does not take too much punishment in his next fight. He is active so his fitness would have levelled out and as he is a throw back 15 round fighter Cotto may land himself in the land of Oz again...

i agree that his stamina is something that can be worked on (probably stems from having to cut 25 lbs in training). One other thing he needs to work on is his defense. He gets hit far too cleanly to last 12 rounds with someone like Tony.

Hard for me to say, because it goes against the whole hispanic macho ethos and means less entertainment for the fans, but if Cotto held a bit more he could dig out a UD; maybe.

Clinching should help, but if he can't hurt Margarito enough to slow him down and somehow ease that constant pressure, the end result will be the same.

A lot of people say he moved around so much that he got tired, truth be told, Margarito landed a lot of body punches, along with buzzing Miguel Cotto a bunch of times, and Cotto's movement that lost it for him. But it was the body punches, not his conditioning that lost him the fight. Even in the beginning of the fight when Cotto was boxing Margaritos ears off, Margarito was still hitting him and it broke him down. That is why MIguel Cotto would not win the rematch, he is simply too small for Margarito. Margarito will throw a hundred punches a round forcing Cotto to throw to get him off. If he tries to brawl back, then its the first match all over again. If he doesn't he will be out thrown and will lose by not being as active. The way Margarito was fighting Cotto wont be able to land many body punches. The bottom line is Margarito has more heart, better stamina, and is stronger, if not punching power he is way more durable and has a bigger will.

Cotto has good stamina and conditioning, watch the fight again Margarito threw and landed a lot of body punches.

The first fight did last into the 11th round, and the scorecards where still very close before cotto took the knees.

I don't think anyone can necessarily slow down Margarito at WW (he was steadied a few times by Daniel Santos at LMW, but thats a different story), but clinching could get Cotto to the 12th and earn him a tight points decision.
