Exactly. But you make a CLEAR point here. If Calzaghe is choosing Jones over Pavlik strictly because of money, then how can Calzaghe truly be great by taking on the best available?

The fans can't have it both ways. Either Joe is taking a money grab and avoiding the bigger challenge, or he really feels that Jones is the bigger challenge and prestige fight, money or no money.

I DARE any Calzaghe fan to argue that a shot Jones is a better win than a prime Pavlik.

If Calzaghe beats a washed up jones. Yes, it will get A LOT worse. If he beats a talented RJJ.....well, then it'll be interesting

Thats the short and long of it.

Though if it is a narrow, debatable win (and i'm not talking like Joe v Hopkins, that wasn't debatable) the hate will probably surge.

Was he ?, I remember thinking of it as a relatively easy win for Hopkins qhixh it turned out to be.

What were the bookies offering ?, I'm wondering what I missed out on.

Yup how come people forget that. Robert Allen (x3),Segundo Mercado (x2) Antwun Echols (x2), Andrew Council, Steve Frank, Joe Lipsey, William Bo James, John David Jackson, Syd Vanderpool, Simon Brown.....that`s 14 of his title fights!!

And people have the brass neck to criticize Calzaghe :patsch

Does the Jones fight make economic sense? Heard a lot of posters saying it ain`t worth an American fighter travelling because the opponent is well known enough etc...you can`t have it both ways.

Yes, you heard a lot of posters. When was I one of them? I will say this though, neither fighter would be making more money than to fight each other, so it makes ECONOMIC sense, but as far as prestige and legacy, Joe Calzaghe can claim NOTHING here compared with if he fought a prime fighter instead.

You`ll here plenty of fans here excusing American fighters not travelling or not having fought certain fighters because the $$$`s didn`t add up. These fighters are far more guilty than Joe Calzaghe of that. Your point wasn`t well thought out.

I'm gonna be neutral cause I called a technichal knockout long before fight night, roys beyond shot, I think he's up there with the most shot fighters in history, infact at the moment he's just an average joe, i wouldn't expect him to last the distance with a welterweight not a middleweight, like jim lampley said "if roy were to fight me right now, it would be stupid, the guy can't take a punch at all at the moment and should retire"
