Usyk has a fight coming in August. The CW tourney starts in September.

Can't put it much better. I'll add that with the tourney the concept of lineal champion should be ignored and retired. The exercise of attempting to compare resumes to determine what boxers deserve to compete for a lineal vacancy is no longer necessary, as most of the best are mandated to fight each other, and the results in the ring come through.

If Usyk's not in, he's pretty much competing for enterainment and money, not divisional relevance. Well, I like Usyk and he'd likely get the consolation prize of a higher spot than the tourney winner on my p4p list :naughty2: But anything anyone might say about his status in the cruiserweight division shouldn't be taken seriously. Even if he beats the tourney winner there should be questions about his 'championship status'. Did he truly deserve the shot? Did he conserve his body while the tourney winner possibly was a bit damaged getting through tough fights?

As the Super Series becomes established non-tourney bouts should really be looked at only as means for boxers to prove themselves and angle towards a tournament spot every four years.

Who cares about that lineal thing? They are competing to win the biggest cruiserweight tournament ever, and the glory that comes with it. Not some half baked "man that beat the man that beat the man that was decided in some stuffy boardroom that the winner of that fight should be the man and denied by others that beat the man"

The winner will be the winner and probably the #1 cruiserweight out there. And maybe not even that, with the possibility of robberies, controversy, things happening outside the tournament and such.

I think it's better for Usyk to have a fight in his home country. The things in Ukraine are very very bad and an event like this could be nice for the country. Simply Usyk must face the winner of the tournament to prove that he is that good. I just wonder who will travel to Ukraine to fight there in August.
