We're all agreed that the current heavyweight division is terrible and is in need of help. With David Haye stepping up to take on Wladimir Klitschko will he be the first of a few cruiserweights that will chase glory up at heavyweight?
Jean-Marc Mormeck is making his heavyweight debut soon, O'Neill Bell is soon making the move up to heavyweight and there has been talk of Tomasz Adamek making a step up too. Granted it wont make the heavyweight division glamorous or what it was and what it should be. But it would make it more exciting?

    A good thing or not?

No beside Adamek and Cunningham there aren't many great cruisersweights at the moment.

Guillermo Jones, Mormeck and Steve Cunningham are chanceless against the top HW's

especially Cunningham lacks punching power and Mormeck lacks power and is too small do deal with the big guys.

I can't see how Adamek could beat Vitali Klitschko.

The heavyweight division doesn't really need "saving". It's going through a weak spell, but so are several other divisions. People confuse a lack of charisma with a lack of talent.

outside of Adamek i dont see any1 putting a dent in the HW scene, but after Haye beats the Klit bros....maybe Adamek will pick up a strap, then we'll have a unification match, and that would be a very entertaining fight

    so yeah, maybe?

Disagree. The heavyweight division is in the doldrums. If Haye gets embarassed what then for the division? The rest of 09 will be filled with meaningless fights that would act as a substitute for a sleeping tablet. The heavyweight division does need saving. I'm not saying Haye is the man to do it but he's the only candidate out there at the moment. Him and maybe Arreola...........MAYBE.

I hope Haye gets embarassed (and he probably will), he's nothing but a loquacious fool with no wit to speak of. It's not their fault the Klitschko's are so far ahead of everyone else. There's a painful lack of charisma and a chasm between the best and everyone else, and yes, it's in the doldrums. But no one fighter is can "save" a division. It needs depth and more than one new name.

The cruiserweights will save the heavyweight division by providing a sacrificial lamb to be slaughtered next month.

I think the heavyweight division has been in much worse shape at various times during the past. Just think of Tyson's electrifying fight vs a worn-out light heavyweight. Leon Spinks pinching Ali's title when Spinks only had six or eight professional fights, Pete Rademacher going directly from amatuer to title challenger. Watch some of Larry Holmes' fights and you'll develop a new appreciation for the guys who are boxing in the heavyweight division today. The thing about the heavyweight division is the "heavyweights stink" theme has been around for thirty something consecutive years, some people get wise to this, hopefully more will wise-up and force boxing writers to cultivate a fresh take that can eventually evolve into a cliche.

    Clarity. Perspective.

Two things sorely lacking at times on this forum. Thanks for providing it.

I'm not saying that Haye is the man to save the hw division. But I do want him to beat Wlad because he'll make the division watchable again. Can you name me one heavyweight world title fight over the last year that you would pay to watch and then would want to watch again and again? I'm not personally blaming Wlad and Vitali for any form of demise. But the division needs resuscitated badly. This is the most talked about heavyweight fight in years. What Haye is doing to Wlad verbally is nowhere near as bad as some of the stupid things the likes of Clay/Ali and Tyson have said.

I'm sorry, but Haye isn't that exciting a fighter. I wouldn't really pay to watch Haye unless I could get a guarantee he's getting knocked out. Ali and Tyson had wit and charisma. Haye has none. Haye is as boring as the rest, he just chats more ****.

Tyson had wit and charisma? Are you kidding me? Give me a for instance. And the way Ali hounded Liston and totally berated Frasier had nothing to do with wit or charisma.

i gotta concur w/ pepper here...if holy can come up from cruiser and bang w/ a 250 bowe for three fights and if moorer can come up and grab a strap and impress like he did then of course. and to be honest i hope it starts a trend of lighter, more athletic hw's coming up from cruiser. its just my preference of course and nothing against the klits, they are doing their jobs by putting down the man in front of them.

(not comparing holy to haye btw b/c holy is a true warrior and is proven at hw, haye is still a big ???)
