Will the Don King factor mean Stiverne's defence is delayed?

    King's recent champions have had big gaps between defences

    Jones held the WBA Cruiser title but was out over a year at a time. Bundrage defended his IBF LMW title once per year.

    Wilder has been fairly active and I am hoping he does not stagnate waiting for the Stiverne shot. Will they meet by September?

    Does Wilder want the fight? That's the question that needs answering. On last night's performance I'd say it's a massive step up for Wilder from his previous opponents. I suspect the WBC won't be that lenient with the title defences now after the Vitali debacle.

    If Wilder doesn't want the fight Stiverne/Perez would be a decent fight to make.

    it seems Wilder doesnt seem to be taking another fight before his title shot by the looks of things, Stiverne could make him wait a long time for his shot if he wanted to.

    wilder is mandatory, once stiverne fights his optional defense, wilder will get the wbc strap shot within a reasonable time frame the sanctioning body dictates or else the champion gets stripped.

    He can take a voluntary, but has to fight Wilder within 6 months I believe. The WBC see the potential income from getting the heavyweight title back on a sellable American like Wilder, so don't expect to see them give King much leeway.

    Bunce discussed this on the Boxing Hour tonight. Looks like Stiverne can make a voluntary before facing Wilder.

    Bunce & Jones both suggested Shannon Briggs as the logical opponent

    It wouldn't surprise me if Briggs gets it as he's been getting his name out there recently and that fight would be marketable in New York or Miami.
    The thing is Stiverne apparently wants Klitschko straight away $$$?

    Klitchko would have to vacate his IBF belt if he does not face Pulev next

    King would find negotiating with K2 a lot harder than Briggs who he will get future fight options over
