Compared to his feather/superfeather/light performances, I thought Marquez looked bloated, overweight, sluggish and totally lacking the venom and firepower in his punches when he fought Mayweather at a 144 catchweight, even early in the fight. Will the experience of already fighting at this weight serve him well to add the weight better this time and perform better, or are we going to see the same physical version of Marquez as last time? If the blunted thick-around-the-middle Marquez turns up to fight Pacquiao, he's going to be in a whole world of trouble!
Wasn't the argument that it's his 'natural' weight on fight night and he could come in like he usually does since he weighs that much already? Doubt we'll see anything different from JMM. Only difference will be Pac trying to take his head off to silence any doubters unlike Floyd just getting rounds in after a long layoff...
unfortunately, i don't think it will help much. he'll have better offensive success against pacquiao. he may even be smart and borrow mosley's strategy of circling to the left. it made pac look pretty average as he apparently doesn't know of this concept called cutting off the ring. but pac's a different beast right now. he's got a thing for beating floyd's sloppy seconds, and i expect marquez will fair no different. also, mtquez is getting older and still fighting in wars against great fighters. it take its toll. pacquiao may stop him. i still say marquez at 135. but at 140+ its pacquiao all day.
This is classic. I can see it already, a 39 year old Marquez at WW is somehow a better fighter than the one who got his ass kicked at WW two years earlier. Marquez is not suited for WW. One experience which consisted of him getting pummeled at WW is not going to change that.
He's definitely learned from the mistake. Nacho kept commenting on how he needed to improve his speed on 24/7, and obviously with the weight-gaining, it just never got there. That's why he's trying new methods to carefully adjust to the weight without losing physical advantages. He can't afford to "just come in" at his natural weight and expect Pacquiao to not maximize his own weight-gain, which he wears better on his body. He's got to adjust to a bigger man somehow. We'll see how durable, mobile, fast, and sharp he looks against Ramos at 140.
he could prepare better this time as it looks like he is. but, pac is a different animal now. he aint starving himself any more to make weight. whether he comes in better prepared than he did for mayweather, this fight wont be any different.
In all seriousness I think he could do a better job of going up the scales this time around, both because he went through the bad experience last time and because he'll have a fight to become acclimated to the weight, without having to jump straight from 135. I just still think he'll still be physically hampered up there and the inevitable age-related loss of speed and reflexes won't help.
Yea, now they're feeding him like a dinner pig several times a day to maximize what his frame can effectively carry.
It may help a bit. But during the 24/7 for Marquez vs Mayweather, JMM seemed like he was busting his ass in training(drinking **** and all that included), and he doesn't strike me as a guy who wouldn't do everything he can do. Add the two years on top of the weight and it doesn't look good for him, but who knows.
Yes and against Pacquiao he was coming off two terrible performances, had to jump between classes, was pushing even closer to 40, and had to contend with those dreaded blisters
Actually JMM did say he put on weight incorrectly... he learned his lesson and hired a doctor and consultants to help him gain weight correctly & efficiently. I believe it to be the truth and we shall see a small glimpse in his next fight.
