Well I think there has to be a number of American's to "revive" the Heavyweight scene...I never said these American guys had to turn up at once. As long as America has at least one competitive guy...the division is going to bring casual fans back watching them.

Also...the division can be considered great in two different ways in my opinion. Hardcore boxing fans will consider the division great if and when the division is competitive again (it doesn't matter what nationality). Whereas casual fans will consider the division great when you have a charismatic World champion...and this is most likely when an American is at the forefront, like you said there massive market will be a huge influence.

    yea thats fair enough.

For me personally im not too bothered about the personalities of the boxers as long as they are damm talented, competitive and exciting in the ring. And as long as there are a number of contenders around who all have a credible chance at getting a belt. I look at the 140 division and the reason i like it is coz everyone at the top is YOUNG and hungry and all of them have something to prove. there are also so many different styles up there.

I don't think so, maybe in 20-30 years but not anytime soon.

The heavyweight division has rarely been great. More often than not, you get one dominant fighter and group of very good ones...that's in a good era. The Tyson era, the Lewis era, the Louis era, the Marciano era, the Holmes era, etc. The only era that was truly great was the Ali era where there were four or five legitimately great fighters.

Today we have two very good fighters and everybody else. Hopefully, a dominant heavyweight can come along soon, but who knows.

It may be narrow-minded, but it's also the truth. American media is obviously the most influential and American fans are arguably the most welcoming, i.e., they accept people if from all over. Look at Adamek. A transplanted Pole who has found a home in the States. By comparision, the UK are not big fans of outsiders. Hell, even the great Lennox Lewis got **** for his Jamaican heritiage and his gold medal victory for Canada. Frank Bruno was a huge fan favorite in their fight. In the end, there's a far greater chance of an American or an foreigner achieving greatness than almost anywher else....

There might be a freak exception who squeezes through the cracks, but I don't see an era of great American HWs happening again. There are too few amateur programs, no local gyms, and basketball and football are seen as much more glamorous and lucrative. The American sports world that produced Holyfield, Bowe, Tyson, etc., doesn't exist anymore.

It will be. When Klitschkos retire. And when I say "great" I mean "competitive"

If you took out the Klitschkos, you've a pretty exciting mix of evenly matched contenders.

A bit like the SMW division when Calzaghe left, suddenly you've got a handful of fairly evenly matched people, who were overshadowed by a fairly dominant champion.

Can anyone say super heavyweight division? Fighters like haye and adamek come in shape and display real skills. As for all these giants or the burger slamming lard asses let them fight each other. Heavyweight division is the only division where fighter A can have a fifty pound weight advantage on fighter B and the fight be considered legit. Until the steroid freaks and the gluttons are filtered out guys who tip the scales at 230 and below and are shorter than 6'3 will never have a real shot at ruling the division. And unfortunatly the smaller heavies actually have skills not just power combined with sloth like speed.
