yeah british media might refer to him as p4p no 1, he should move up the rankings if he wins, maybe 1 place up but to be p4p no 1, titles should have been won at 3 or more weight divisions and to get into the no 1 spot you would have had to have won a title at a weight you have just started boxing at

you don't have to move up in weight to be #1 p4p that's not how it's works. he would definatly move up more than 1 place, he's the underdog in this fight, remember pacs not going to ever fight lower than 140 again and so has to be considered a 140 fighter from now on. and a win would be very impressive. i'd have him about 3-4 with a descisive win.

Haha ya know...I mean the only think Hatton has done since getting knocked by mayweather is beat Lazcano (and he got hurt by a check left hook in that fight and he's lucky the ref was in his favor and had him tie his shoes or some bullsh1t like that) and outbox and beat convincingly a beatable Malignaggi...he deserves to be #10 at the most right now!

This thread has turned into an epic!

What I gather from it is thus:

    1. Most people will not regard Hatton as P4P#1 should he beat Pac.
    2. Most people believe that major media publications like The Ring will not recognise Hatton as such either.
    3. British tabloids and Sky Sports will regard Hatton as P4P#1 if he wins.

Then who do you think is P4P number 1 if HAtton wins.?

JMM a guy who lost to Chris John and Manny?
Hokins who lost 3 times recently to Taylor and Calzaghe?
Calzaghe who is now virtually retired?
Or Manny the guy who just lost? lol.

oscar came out and said in an interview today that hatton "will dethrone manny and be the new p4p #1" or something like that.

He's just totally outclassed the number 1 ring rated guy in his division - he's been the Ring champ there for years - by beating the former Ring champ - he has wins in the past over Ring rated p4p no 3 and 7 fighters. Add to that beating the current p4p no1 who is now fighting at 140 - that is now his future fighting weight - and I think he deserves to be in the top 3.

Calzaghe is currently no 3 and I don't see as beating a 43 year old, recently twice beaten Hopkins (while being taken to a close split decision which some think he lost), and a victory oven an unproven (top draw wise) guy in Kessler - as marginally any better then what Hatton will have done should he beat the current P4P no1.

I'd say top 3 is fair.
