Will the media recognise Ricky Hatton as the P4P#1 should he defeat Pac?

If Juan Manuel Marquez beats Juan Diaz, he should be the first ever joint pound-for-pound number 1 because his last 3 fights would then be a very controversial razor-thin loss to the p4p#1, a brilliant KO win over The Ring lightweight champion (first man ever to stop Casa) to win a world title at a 3rd weight division, and then a win over arguably the next best lightweight out there (the Campbell fight was an off-night, Diaz is an excellent lw), when in all fairness JMM is a natural featherweight.

One win over Pacquiao (when Pac has never even fought at 140) does NOT mean that Ricky Hatton is a better fighter than Juan Manuel Marquez, it does not justify a leap of NINE places above guys like JMM, Calzaghe and Hopkins who have been showing their superiority over Hatton for years.

And I firmly believe The Ring will do the right thing, as I have outlined.

would PBF have been as succesful if he was slow and had bad defence?

What I mean when I say size is about weight is that other advantages like height, reach, power, speed, skills, chin, etc are part of what determines the quality of a fighter. But weight is different.

For example, Celestino Caballero is about 5'11" and has a 72" wingspan and fights at 122lbs. He would dwarf Zab Judah but would still get KTFO at 147lbs. That doesn't make Zab the better fighter.

Well don't make brash comments like 'everything is about weight' if you already know that there is a ton of elements that go into deciding what makes a good fight.

And all things considered Pac-Hatton is a great fight potentially.

I agree with the majority of that, and it is my opinion that Hatton will be ranked no higher than 3rd by the Ring Magazine should he defeat Pac.

However, do you think the likes of Sky Sports will begin referring to Hatton as being the best P4P fighter in the World in that instance?

I've often spoken about how the media in this country can mislead the more casual boxing fans in the population...

I never said everything is about weight. All I said Hatton has a size advantage. That's all I said and imo its undeniable. Its the Hatton fans who went PMS when I said that.

with regards to the topic. If Hatton was fighting Pac at 135 and beat him, then I would probably place him as #2 if JMM beats Diaz and #1 if Diaz wins..

Sky sports can do what it likes, it had Oscar at number 7 before the Pac fight. Which we all know is total bull****

The way you say size though makes it sound as though he has the advantage in every department from a physical perspective. The advantage starts and ends with weight and its consequential power with this. Everything in terms of size relating to reach, height, goes to Pac. That's why I feel its wrong to just say... Hatton has the size advantage.

ok then Hatton has a weight advantage. With it imo comes strength, punching power, and punch resistance.

I think Hatton should be 4th if he beats Pac. That one win doesn't mean he deserves to be above JMM, Hopkins or Calzaghe.

There's a poster on here, Guy, who thinks that people go around checking every p4p list they can get their hands on (tv stations, magazines, websites etc) and then decide on who they recognize as what number by going with the consensus of all the lists they checked... :-(

So yes, some people will as always be fooled by the media and start screaming about how Hatton is number 1, even if The Ring state that he is not and the official boxing community does not recognize him as such.

I dont think there will ever be a joint number1 p4p. Pac will always be number1 until he is beaten, unless he will fight against bums while the other P4P candidates are fighting world class fighters.

And if Hatton beats Pac, I think the highest rank he will get is #6, since Hatton is known that he can only fight at 140lb division.

What a bull**** statement. Define ‘Boxing Fan’, users on here who watch Boxing on TV weekly but have never laced a pair of gloves, or the loyal Fans in the UK who follow Hatton half way around the world, and watch him at 5am every time he fights?

Hatton will become P4P no1, simply because Pac cannot slip more than one place if he loses, that wouldn’t be fair. There would be only one fighter who could fill No 1 spot, and that would rightly go to Ricky Hatton, IF he beats Pac.
