I agree with alot of what you said but minus he would give alot of historically great fighters trouble. Cotto is a one handed fighter and most of the belts he won were vacant titles where he really didn't have to beat the champ to take their belt. He was also a front runner meaning he's good mostly for the first 6 rounds. He always struggled to make weight at 140 and always came in the ring weighing around 160 lbs almost every fight. He had a questionable chin as well. I rate him a B- to a B fighter. His peak a B+ when he beat Shane.

 

what about morales beating pac? cotto didn't win more than a couple rounds.

 

I think those negative aspects were all tied together to him being uncomfortable fighting at 140. Chinny, gassed towards the end, struggling to make weight. You could see it in his face. Also he had more of a right hand before his auto accident, and it's coming back under Steward, he hurt Foreman with two right hands in his last fight. He'll always be predominantly left handed, but so was Oscar and he achieved a lot. I think that his style can be exploited but it's difficult for a lot of fighters to deal with a tree trunk of a jab, an evasive underrated defense, and constant pressure & body work. I really hope Steward can make him even better bringing back lost attributes and improving/correcting present ones, and remake the beast that was Miguel Cotto. People call him shot way to early in my opinion.

 

Not too mention that Mosley then went on to annihilate Margo. Farmboxer's 'logic' is flawed as always.

Good post . Can't really disagree with anything you stated other than the right hands against Foreman who in all actuality was really no threat. Against Gomez he opened up his right also but against real competition I think he lacks confidence in it and I hardly see him use it. The Shane fight is a good indicator because he was really able to exploit him with jabs which won him the fight but against Manny only had luck with it rounds 1,2,and 5.

But yeah...Cotto's career defining win will be Mosley. Like other people have said, I don't think he can top that at this point.

No ONE fight defines Cotto IMO.
His body of work win/lose is top notch.
The Guy has never been in a bad fight.
(Thats what counts in my book)

 

He's great for boxing. He has a deep resume and always delivered good action fights and the only okay fight I think he had is with Foreman. I too think Mosley is his best win but you can't ignore the excitement he brought to boxing. At his best he was ferocious body puncher and I don't think it's a coincidence that Mayweather toke a "vacation" not too long after Cotto/Mosley.
