Will the ref and judges in Las Vegas be fair to Calzaghe?

In the past, we've seen fighters from other countries lose some controversial decisions in Las Vegas. One good example is Felix Sturm vs. De La Hoya. Others include Mayweather vs. Castillo I and Meehan vs. Brewster.

As well, there were some questions as to how fairly Ricky Hatton was treated by Joe Cortez. Even Roy Jones and Teddy Atlas later said Cortez didn't do a good job that night...

So will the referee let Hopkins get away with headbutting and other illegal tactics? If it goes the distance, can Calzaghe expect a fair decision from the judges?

Judging by the hopkins/taylor decisions, I'd say Hopkins has to be wondering how kind the judges will be to him.

I haven't seen a referee that was fair with Hopkins - you have to start taking points from him early or let him go on - nobody is gonna take points from Hopkins in Vegas, Calzaghe retaliates with rabbit punches and gets himself in danger of losing points ( remember Ortega in the 8th against Kessler). There are Las Vegas judges that have a good opinion of Calzaghe. Adelaide Byrd and Chuck Giampa have scored fights like 119-109 and 119-107 for Calzaghe against respected american opponents like Brewer and Lacy.

WHEN Hopkins starts employing his illegal tactics I believe Calzaghe's only chance at a fair scorecard is if BHOP is punished or warned very early in the fight.

Jeff Lacy's mum scored that fight by a similar margin to be fair...

About the ref I don't know btw. But the judges can still be very nice to Hopkins even when the ref isn't:hey

You must understand that GBP has a lot of power.

You see how one of the judges in the marquez vs pacquiao was replaced one week before the fight (!!) That is just very strange since the organisation that coordinates this is the NSAC !! Yes. And that judge appeared to be a friend of Roach' mother !

    Anything can be fixed

Joe is going to beat bernard so soundly that even if the judges tried they wouldn't be able to rob him. They'd end up getting called before congress ala Roger Clemens to explain their bogus decision.

That's funny. I recall Calzaghe getting some home cooking from the referee against Byron Mitchell.

If Joe is really that good, as all you fans say he is, then he should put on a clinic on Hopkins. Judges wouldn't even matter then.

So if the judge who was REPLACED was a friend of Roach's mother, and GBP is Marquez's promoter, then how would that be shady? If anything, it would make it fair.

While I agree with you that GBP can be corrupt (D. Hopkins-Forbes), that's a ridiculous argument.

No, Calzaghe won't get a fair shake. The judges have never seen a foreign fighter before and they will be wearing their American flags during the fight and chant, "Go Hopkins. Kill that Brit."
