Will the referee be fair to Kovalev against Hopkins?

    Yep.
The reality of the situation Kovalev is in is starting to sink in and fear & doubt are starting to invade biased minds.
That Hopkins is 50 cannot be denied win or lose. There is no doubt that Hopkins is and has always been the better fighter, but his current age is a serious factor.
Still, even at 50 years old Kovalev fans are frightened of the strong possibility of another Hopkins schooling of an upcoming young lion.
They have good reason to be afraid.

No-one remember the blatant rabbit punch on Murat by Hopkins with Murats back fully turned?

    Unpunished, but totally illegal.

And Hopkins technique of literally turning his back on his opponents so they can't legally hit him? Exemplified well in the Shumenov fight.

The thing is I'm a fan of both guys, but Hopkins 'veteran' techniques, most especially his butting (since Kovalev has been cut several times in recent fights by headbutts - something that Bernard won't have missed) too often seem to be regarded as a charming eccentricity of the old warrior rather than the dangerously illegal tactics they are.

I'm really happy that this fight's happening, and I'm good with either fighter winning, but will be very disappointed with either fighter winning by using illegal tactics (Kovalev's pretty keen on punching in the clinch too, though Hopkins puts him to shame in that regard also).

The ref will be at least as fair to kovalev as Terry O'Connor was during the Cleverly fight.

    So what's the problem?

    Hopkins isn't Cleverly.

You could have had someone worse than O'Connor like Jack Reiss or Lawrence Cole to work that fight, and Kovalev would still have won.

But Hopkins is a very tricky fighter, much dirtier than Cleverly. He knows how to deliver sneaky headbutts better than anyone (his headbutts are not as obvious as Ward's) and he knows how to fake being fouled and injured.

No. He'll allow the old man to continuously rabbit punch, kidney punch, hold and hit, headbutt, clinch, trip, shove, and elbow Kovalev all night long, as well as go along his drama acting whenever he's in trouble.

You must have got brown eyes coz youre full of crap here
To bring up USA-Russia you should be watching pro Wrestlin'
Calzaghe fought dirtier than Hopkins the blatant low blow was disgusting as was the attempted ***ual assault. Add to this Calzaghe didn't throw 20 LEGITIMATE SCORING punches all fight long. Did he get a warning??? no it was crooked cortez again.
I saw the X rays of Hopkins shoulder after the blatant WWE type throw down by Dawson Hopkins shoulder was separated the doctor said the pain must have been intense. Dawson shold have been DQ'd
Whoever the referee is I hope they call it straight down the middle no bias so no excuses

Hopkins will fall down on the canvas claiming a low blow while landing low blows all night, holding, elbowing, headbutting, etc., hell, Dawson beat Hopkins, Calzaghe made a fool out of Hopkins. Hopkins' personal referee will help Hopkins all he can, probably disqualify Kovalev for hitting Hopkins, and Hopkins' judges and boxing commission, etc., Hopkins is a fraud..............

You're a clown for thinking that. Calzaghe would have taken him out in the 10th save for the BS 5 minute timeout Hopkins pulled trying to get Calzaghe DQ'ed. Hopkins got hurt bad in the 9th.:deal

Joe clearly won, I scored it 115-112 for Calzaghe.

Hopkins is a poor sport. He was also beaten twice by Jermain Taylor and then whined about robberies that never happened.

Yep, thats all it is. But if Sergay does win (a very good possibility) they'll talk about Hopkins as if he's a prime ATG.
