    WBC 154lb title now vacant

The WBC super welterweight world championship held by Manny Pacquiao is being declared vacant, following the unanimous voting of the WBC Board of Governors, due to the inability of the champion to defend his WBC title. The clause in which the WBC is basing its decision is rule 1.25. The official challenger to fight for the vacant title is Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, by his holding the WBC superwelterweight world Silver championship, which the rules have as the automatic challenger for the undisputed WBC title. The contenders to fight for the vacant title will be decided by a voting of the Board in the WBC.

I assumed this fight was at 147 and I'm not sure Hatton is even top 20 in that division. If it ends up at 154 for the WBC world title I will be appalled. Even Alvarez getting a title shot is a stretch. Out pointing Lovemore N'dou at a 150 catchweight....what a joke.

For some reason this has got me really angry, the straw that broke the camel's back. Boxing disgraces itself once again.

In a perfect world they would put the #1 vs #2 contenders but since the #2 is angulo they wont do it and will put alvarez with the easiers boxer to make him a champion. Brace yourself for the hype after that.

I don't know how he keeps his welterweight ranking. His last 5 fights will have been fought at 150. IBO have removed him from their top 100 147 ratings, and he is no longer in the Ring welterweight top 10.

And apparently De La Hoya is the one pushing for Hatton-Alvarez to be for the vacant WBC 154 title.

Got this from the WBC official site:

" Oscar de la Hoya, president of Golden Boy Promotions, sent a communication to the WBC office requesting the approval of the next fight by the WBC SILVER BELT WORLD CHAMPION Saul Canelo Alvarez to be for the vacant undisputed WBC super welterweight championship "

" The president of the WBC Jose Sulaiman, is putting into consideration of the WBC Board of Governors, this request by promoter Golden Boy and will have a decision within a week. "

I expect this will come off, and then Canelo will look to fight WBA regular champ Trout in a unification fight. Imagine that, two fake titlists fighting to become a unified champ. What a sham the WBA and WBC are making of this sport.
