I was pretty pleased with the Yassine El Maachis win last night as I had a few quid on it, but how far do you all think he can go? I thought he was lucky to get past Lynes and didnt look great against Witter in the final contributing factors obviously being that the Hitter was at one stage world class and that their styles didnt mesh. Other than a firework of an uppercut that seems to be thrown from below his ankles, he didnt seem to have much to offer. Prizefighter isnt exactly always a gathering of huge talent, but in contrast to the Heavies one a few weeks ago where the winner is an upcoming prospect, I think the Entertainer may not necessarily push on from this win. What do you lot think?
To be honest that was the first I’d seen of Perez and he looked ok. Would get completely annihilated by any of the big heavies though. I suppose the excitement around him is an indication of the quality of the scene at the moment.
El Maachi has looked better in some of his previous fights, I think he can box a lot better than he showed last night. He was throwing one punch at a time going for the KO. Micky O'Perez looks exciting and we can expect a few good fights out of him. Still if they manage to get a European title in their career I'd say they'd over achieved.
Its hard to judge on that format. You have to win over 3 rounds so even the counterpunchers have to lead off when they don't want to or else they'll lose on points. I'm not saying el Maachi is a world beater just that he probably looked that awkward for a reason last night.
He looks good against someone like Alex Spitko but a guy who can't throw a jab, even with impressive power, is really going to struggle if he steps up. And after the worst Prizefighter final ever will Sky want to show him again or treat him like other awkward fighters like Haskins/Norton.
I think you guys are being harsh. I think he could handle himself at domestic level pretty well. Remember he beat Jimmy Colas better than Konecny did over 10 rounds. I don't see any reason why he couldn't compete well at 147 against the likes of Purdy. Whether anyone is going to pay to see it is another question entirely.
I think thats the most important thing. He goes on about being the most avoided fighter in the country, but surely thats got more to do with his weird style and ability to make fighters look bad than because he holds an unbeatable skill set.
